I'm not going to say I agree with everything you say, but there are a few things right you did say.

The 4 next to Yao either needs to be a young camby type or a charlie V/tim thomas/al harington type of guy. That guy needs to either be a shot blocking, rebounding, long athletic, floor covering type who can erase shots, protect the basket, finish plays and run the floor type. Chris Anderson as crazy as he is, seasn williams as immature as he is are the prototypes. The Charlie V types is the guy that can abuse the 4/5 that has to guard him out on the floor. The post man will have to stay with yao, whoever it is, but the other guy should have to guard a guy who can put the ball on the floor from 20ft, shoot the 3,, and fill the lane. Basicaly like a 3/4 type of guy.

Any good pg helps any team. I like Brooks because of his penetration and shooting. He's not the typical set the table type, but he's effective with yao because of his speed and quickness.

The wings have to be versitile. They should kinda mimic each other in a sense that they both can shoot, slash, score, rebound and pass. There are a lot of wings in the league that can play. The shane battier type isn't the kind you need if you rebuild around yao.

If I can't make all those things happen or land a guy like bosh, lbj or wade, they need to trade him and start over because the fawed team will never be good enough to win a title.

That's unfortunate. I was hoping he would leave for LA and then we would go get Lebron and Wade on the same roster.

    ;)

i dont know. houston is pretty screwed right now. if i were yao i would be tempted to play alongside kobe or lebron. guaranteed championship, tons of money, and in high profile cities.

yao does deserve a star pg who can also shoot the ball. we only need good (not necessarily great) 2's and 3's around him, and we already have decent 4 men.

    rebuild? right now? around whom?

Which good team doesn't need a reasonably good 4? Except for Yao, no other center needs a PF who is either a defensive presence or offensive weapon or both? I think our Scola-Landry-Hayes combination is pretty good. Of course, a long strong shot blocker who can make a jump shot will be ideal, for every team, not just Yao. But we can live with current 4 rotation, as long as we get a decent backup 5, or use Deke once in while.

AB's penetration and shooting are much better than Rafer's. But his extreme low bounce pass to Yao is just a TO waiting to happen. He's also below average to be the floor general.

This is a guard's league now, we can't afford to have Tmac playing current level or have Wafer as the only option. If TMac is effective, Shane's intangible will become tangible plus intangible.

I know you want LBJ or Wade, who wouldn't? But can you? I think the answer is pretty obvious. Even if they don't resign, why would they come to Houston instead of some big market? Just to get the same ref treatment?

For your option No. 2, to get high quality players in every position. The answer is NO, you can't.

So your option No. 3 is really your only option, and the real option you want all along - trade Yao and start the rebuild. Just one question though, rebuild around whom? In other words, except for Lakers, Celtics, Cavs, and maybe Magic, all other teams should just close shops, according to your high standard - good enough to win a title.

no way we can re sign yao without giving him a max deal. and les would make sure he gets yao back.

the team needs to some research now on who's the best player they can get that would fit yao by 2010

Business is business, Yao is loyal, and that's good, but for his own benefit, I wish he go for the max. Only when the team agree to build a champion-caliber team, then might considering compromise!

Real_egal- I know what you're saying and like I've told ibm, I can rebuild on the fly with yao or without yao, it doesn't matter as long as you get it right. Scolandry is a good combo, but the problem is they don't make up for what yao can't do. If we flip this thing upside down, they're not the kind of players yao needs opposite of him. That's not to say their not productive players, because they are, but can they produce on the level offensivey and defensively on a championship squad? My answer is no.

The wings are probably the easiest to find production wise, but the special wings aren't . Kevin Martin is a very good wing, but he's not paul pierce. He may be like Josh Howard, and that's cool.

PG is the hardest, but I really like Brooks. Yes he has young player inconsistencies, but in a yr or so, we should see what he is. If you want to turn this team upside down on its head after the playoffs, I'm all for it. That means tracy, rafer, shane, head, hayes, deke are all gone. That's not such a bad idea if you ask me because If yao can produce and stay healthy like he is now for say the next 4 yr like ibm thinks, that means the young players have to curve up sharply as his curve is slowly going down. That doesn't mean 4 regular role players, you have to have some dynamic players with a lift in potential. So say we strip down and its brooks, scola, landry, and Yao, who would you try to fill the squad with to put them in posistion to make a serious run at the ring in 2 yrs after this 1?

it's a lot easier on paper.

and w/ yao is a lot easier than w/o, because we don't have a new target to rebuild around if yao is out of the picture.

any lebron type on next year or 2010 draft? since the f/a's ain't coming to houston in my reckoning.
