Being happy about someone being in a car accident is bad karma, so I can't say I am thrilled that Scott Stapp is hurt. I just wish that if we must have Creed shoved down our throats all of the time that the lead singer would stop making all of those Jesus Christ poses and comparing his band to Led Zeppelin. They are so unbelievably bad that I can't believe that anyone who has ever heard *any other rock and roll band ever* likes them at all, so I won't tell Nomar the 1,345 top reasons that Creed sucks monkey taint. When Fred Durst and Stapp had their little hissy fit it felt like when the Nazi's and the USSR were at war..you weren't sure who was worse, but you wanted the fight to go on and on.
I thought their first album was pretty crunchy. Not one of my favorites, but I'll admit to buying it...
I don't hate Creed so much as the fact that I think they overplay their songs/videos waaaay too much. But they overplay almost everything now it seems ... I actually liked some of Creeds earlier singles, but not any recent ones.
They don't have any more talent than Britney Spears, its canned, monotonous sound. Its total crap. Every song is the same, repititive sound. Same guitar, same lyrics, same singing. Thats not talent, thats called exploiting the market.
Man, there's a lot of jealousy running through this thread. In all seriousness...what the hell? I think Creed is ok, but don't really care much either way. Some of you guys are obsessed about them for who knows what reason. Is it because you can't relate to the same thing that apparently lots of people do? Is that what makes you so bitter? If so, why? I often am a fan of stuff that isn't always on the top ten lists. But I sure as hell don't get so angry about it. Also, I'd like to see some of this 'ego-trip' stuff. (Though I think its pretty naive not to think this doesn't apply to other bands). If I could see that maybe I could understand why this pocket of people hate them so much. And I don't mean message board gossip either, because anyone who believes that word for word needs a reality check.
if creed's playing, aim for the ear. better yet, just shove it my brain. creed.... they're your generation's bon jovi. they're merely filling the void until something really unique and special comes along to remind everyone why we love music so much. mark this down: in three years, vh1 will be sponsoring their tours and the lead singer will be a contestant on "celebrity survivor." and ya know what? i actually feel bad for you. it's depressing to know you were sperm when the ramones broke rock-n-roll's mold; an infant when u2 went to find themselves in the california desert; not even a teenager when nirvana tapped into a growing rage brewing amongst a disenfranchised generation of kids, all of which happened before i was 21, and i'm sure there are a lot of people who can tell similiar, life-altering stories of musical revolution. and all you get is creed, a piddling, derivative, middle of the road rock band who's lead singer has a massive messiah complex and likes to wear leather pants. i mean, i'm serious, that sucks, cause i love music, and no one should have to grow up with creed representing the musical apex of their generation.
Fight the power! By the way, if VH1's Behind the God Complex wasn't enough to make you hate his humourless self-aggrandising leather-pant-wearing-ass, here's a quote from a Stapp webchat: "SlayerRob asks: Scott, some have compared you to Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam...what do you think of that comparison? Scott S: I kick his ass completely! Eddie Vedder keeps changing his vocal style. I'm real, I'm human, it's not about being artsy-fartsy" I don't even *like* Pearl Jam and I'm offended... Oh, and here's a Stapp quote from Spin: "You can say what you want about this band, but it's undeniable. It's very similar to Led Zeppelin. The first three albums, they got bashed basically from the entire media, and it wasn't until their fourth album that everybody accepted the fact that Led Zeppelin were gonna be there and be around. We're kind of starting to feel that way." How do you do that little hurling emoticon again? This website has its moments. http://www.angelfire.com/band/scottcrapp/list.html Look, it would be fine with me if he recovered. But then I'd like him to retire from music altogether. Not Celine Dion retire, I mean *really* retire. Spend some quality time with that precious lamely-named son of yours, Stapp. You know, the one you keep bringing on stage in order to shamelessly manipulate your audience. That one.
count me in the apparent short list of Creed fans. i don't like everything they do, but i like most of it. ....and in my opinion Pearl Jam was and is more overhyped than Creed ever will be. AIC, Nirvana, Mudhoney & Soundgarden will always be what early ninties foundation is built on.....everyone else hopped along for the ride.
two of pearl jam's members helped give birth to the seattle scene and sound; i don't know if i'd accuse them of hopping along for the ride...
this is made up. their (former) bass player said something about them kicking PJ's ass and that vedder wishes he were as good a singer as the guy in creed. when it was reported, creed threw the guy out of the band and issued a statement apologizing to PJ and kissing their ass. i know this because it still ranks as creed's one and only genuine moment as a rock band.
I don't really know much about Creed. The first time I heard them, though, I thought they sounded like one of many Pearl Jam replicas that have arisen since about 95...for some reason everyone tries to alter their voices to get that Vedder "quality." Keep in mind that I never really liked Pearl Jam. The only song I really liked of theirs was that Yellow Leadbetter....and that was just for its humor appeal because you can't understand a word Vedder says - just sounds like drunken gibberish... Anyway, whoever said they have a unique sound - I don't see it. Perhaps I have not heard enough. Someone brought up the Ramones as some great pennacle of music? Man, same two chords for every song...the idea, though, was that they were a kind of "everyband" and anyone could do it, not just the beautiful people. Perhaps that was your point? This is interesting to see this, though...so much passion on each side. I guess that is just because they are so popular so it brings strong defenders and opponents. Who cares if they compare themselves to Led Zeppelin...it is not true. Besides, NKOTB were often compared to the Beatles in their heyday. Where are they now?
or, maybe my point was that they invented punk rock and single-handedly started a musical revolution that gave birth to the sex pistols, the clash, and by extension, nirvana, greenday, blink 182.......... easily, and unquestionably one of the 4 or 5 most influential bands in the entire history of rock-n-roll.
