The guy is averaging 1.53 shots per game. His offense is not why he rides the bench, RICK ADELMAN is why he rides the bench. Chuck can score and he has proven it, but he doesn't get the same shots he did in Van Gundy's system as he does in Adelman's. The proof is in the numbers: Under Van Gundy: 06-07 4.29 0.573% 5.6ppg Under Rick Adelman: 07-08 2.79 0.511% 3.0ppg 08-09 1.53 0.306% 1.1ppg The whole "liability on offense" stuff was never even talked about until Rick Adelman got here. And here is the stat I like the best: Kendrick Perkins 07-08: *Celtics win Championship with former Rockets assistant Tom Thibodeau 6.9ppg, 6.1 rpg, 24.5mpg Chuck Hayes 06-07: 5.6ppg, 6.7rpg, 22mpg
And we saw Okur torch Luis Scola a year after Chuck Hayes shut him down. It's just a bad matchup either way, but the game was won if Juwon Howard would have gotten that rebound. Last year, The Rockets had no chance because Scola let Okur do whatever he wanted.
Which is what a good coach would have done. You really think Phil Jackson is going to sit there and watch his 7' 6 Center get burned by a 6' 10 guy? Rick Adelman has just clearly lost whatever coaching ability he had, if he ever had any. 36 and 22 is just outrageous when you have one of the best defenders in the league sitting on the bench. His 3 minute cameo where he had Jefferson shooting balls into the side of the backboard was amusing, however
You guys don't remember Chuck was huge in the Boston game in stopping Garnett. In the right situation like against Minnesota this would work, let Hayes body up Jefferson taking away his jumper and let Yao guard a slower player like Love. Yao can deal with Love or Craig Smith. Adelman goes to Chuck in certain defensive situations, I haven't figured out the method to his substitutions because I thought Chuck would have been perfect to slow down Jefferson but he didn't sub in Chuck.
Looks like we won't need to worry about Jefferson, he tore his ACL last night. That is terrible though, I never want to see a player who is having a very productive season go down with an injury like that.
Van Gundy's PF rotation: Juwan Howard, Chuck Hayes, Ryan Bowen, Scott Padgett, Clarence Weatherspoon, Shane Battier (spot minutes) Adelman's PF rotation: Luis Scola, Carl Landry, Chuck Hayes, Shane Battier (spot minutes), Ron Artest (spot minutes) Why would you be surprised that Chuck gets less burn and less shots these days?
Coach wanted to get Deke into the rotation, which means that Chuck's 6 minutes in the first half were taken by him. Coach had no intention of playing Hayes at all in that game. At least that was my understanding. Adelman is still trying to figure out who he "has" to have in the rotation for the greatest success. At this point Chuck isn't one of those people.
It doesn't surprise me at all with Rick Adelman's love affair with Luis Scola. He is seriously one of the worst, if not THE WORST defender I have ever seen in the NBA. There is no way in hell he plays ahead of Chuck Hayes if Van Gundy is still here. No way.
Yes he would have... Van Gundy likes Luis as well, he's said so when he's done the broadcast. Luis isn't that horrible on defense.
Yes he is. He plays small defensively, doesn't contest shots and has poor rotations. That's why I've said a Camby type or Tim Thomas type is the best type next to or subbing for Yao. If they had Tim Thomas, that means Boozer, Love and guys like that would have to guard him to the 3pt line. Not to mention he can beat people off the dribble. That will be a problem just like when we played the sonics and dream couldn't go to the 3pt line with Perkins or Brickowski.
I haven't seen Okur "abused" Yao on perimeter. The real problem is if Yao has to guard Okur out to 3 poin line, that will leave no shot blocker in the paint for Rockets.
we're better off hopin that they all tear their acl. Chuck is just too bad of an offensive player to have in the game...he could at least learn how to hit a layup.
Yes, he absolutely positively IS that horrible on defense. I think he had just figured out the loophole of, if you don't play defense, you don't pick up fouls, so you stay in the game. When Adelman was trying his best to get Scola into the rotation, he would come in, pick up 2 fouls within a minute and have to sit. He finally figured out the secret. Just don't play defense Though in truth, he just doesn't have the strength or the skill to play pro level defense.
Where were you? Even when JVG was here we talked about Chuck being a liability on offense. The difference with JVG was that we did not have Landry or Scola so we really did not have a better option. Chuck Wagon is the only PF on the team that is a liability. You never, ever, ever want Chuck on the floor unless Landry or Scola are having an off night or they are in foul trouble. As a power forward Chuck gets outscored by an average of 5.4 pts per 48 minutes. As a center Chuck gets outscored by an average of 14.3 points per 48 minutes. By comparison: As a power forward Scola outscores his opponenet by an average of 1.9 pts per 48 minutes. As a center Scola gets outscored by an average of 4.2 pts per 48 minutes. As a power forward Landry outscores his opponents by an average of 1.7 pts per 48 minutes. As a center Landry outscores his opponents by an average of 25 pts per 48 minutes although it is a tiny sample. If Chuck played equall minutes for Landry and Scola he would give back all the points plus an extra 2 pts per 48 minutes. As a Center, Yao Ming outscores his opponents by over 9 pts per 48 minutes and Chuck would give all of those points back as well if he played equal minutes to Yao. Chuck should only see the floor if there is no other option on the team.
"Per 48 Minutes" you must be joking... And talking about a player getting outscored is the most ridiculous **** I have heard all week. Chuck gets more stops than he gets points, which are as good if not better than points. Of course, nobody keeps stats on stops. Luis Scola might average 12 ppg, but he gives up at least that on defense, if not more. I have no idea what hole you dug those numbers up from, but you are either reading them wrong or they are full of ****.
