why i find so striking about that vid is how easy kenny makes a post entry pass look. wish we had a guard, any guard, today who could do the same. they've got a pretty big target.
We know tinman is stepping around the point and try to see who cheer for the Rockets regardless of what name on the back or do you cheer for the name on th front. Its like this, we have fans that want the rockets to do well, but with their favorite player getting the credit or doing the best. We have fans that just want the rockets to win regardless of who does well. There are true rocket fans and the are rockets fans who are "only fans" first. Most of the older members are rockets fans, most of the newer members are rockets fans, but are "only fans".
bigez, what about the fans who get mad when I show a clip of early 90s Rockets vs early 90s Bulls. you should check out that thread and see what kind of Rockets hate that boils in people's blood. its just a clip meant for people to enjoy. but some people didn't enjoy it. they just like to point out that the team with R-O-C-K-E-T-S and dismiss whatever they do. win, lose, play good defense, whatever You can't it a church if no one in the church believes. Rudy T had one thing to say to those non believers...
Ah! So an Only Fans debate is a shoe (i like it more than afoot). I think Tin wouldn't do that. Rather I think what he's asking is where does your fandom reach. Maybe not necessarily one player, but a team. Like if we were lakers fans, does it start with the showtime era, or KB and Shaqfu, or KB24? I think that's what he's getting at. Plus we all know Tin is a Yao only fan haha jk.
Maybe its the guy receiving the pass and not the guy making it. I don't ever see other teams talking about guards not making entry passes. Francis never had a problem dumping it to dream and barkley. Why is that?
I know a lot of Lakers fans that were pissed when they traded Norm Nixon for Byron Scott. I know a lot of Lakers fans that were pissed when the team traded Shaq and kept Kobe. Through it all, they're still loyal to the team. I wonder how many fans will leave if tracy or yao were traded?
i always want the rockets to win, but i also want certainly players on the opposing team to do well. does that count? i ray allen, bibby, lebron, francis, etc to have monster stats but the rockets to win.
I find that the Laker fan is truer to their team then we are. its a sad conclusion based on this board vs the Laker fans I know. Laker fan, young or old would never dismiss their championship teams. You think All Rocket fans would defend their championships, we only have 2. its like back in the day we got no respect from the media and we united as a community and would have gladly punched out any outsider who dismissed our rings. now its backwards, its the enemy within. Its like this season of 24. CTU has to go underground to find the traitors.
If the Rockets won the championship today. And someone told you it was a fluke cause the Lakers Andrew Bynum got hurt. What would you tell them?
If anything I'd consider myself at one time to be an SF3 only fan. Yeah, I loved the dream and clyde era, but it wasn't why I was a Rockets fan. I guess as I got older that evolved. When we got Tmac I was heartbroken, when Rudy left I was devestated, and yet through it all I was a fan. Any fans of one player, really can't call themselves a Rockets fan. Fandom transcends player appreciation, fandom is a religion, player appreciation is more like going to church when you sin. Fans and player appreciators aren't in the same league.
LOL. I suggest you all vote "NO" just like me. If all members here voted "yes" then how can tinman feel more superior of himself? This is one of his hundreds "I am a 99er/I love Kenny and Maxwell and Barkley, so I am a better fan than you" threads. This is the only time he feels good about himself and he REALLY needs that. It's like his medication. So guys be generous and vote "No". Please Help Tinman and VOTE NO
Haha! I'd debate that the truer fans are in fact the other LA team, the Clips. Those fans are nutts, because there's no such thing as a fair weather clips fan, they never really do that well. I think more than anything it's a growing trend in the league as a whole. The youth are more concerned with Kobe's 81, LB in 2010, and less concerned with how the geriatric Spurs are still winning. Look at the two best teams in the league: Pistons and Spurs. They are hated upon soo much. (I'm talking about pre-Iverson pistons). Everyone gets behind this dumbass Celts team, why? They have the names. The death of true fandom comes at the cost of the internet, the YouTubes, and above all the SportsCenter. If people really want team ball to come back, reduce the cap, make players more invested with the teams and not just their stat lines. The thing is, if I'm getting paid $22 million, does it matter if I win or lose? If my plays go on SportsCenter I have a job no matter what. It shouldn't be like that, it should be IF WE win, I have a job. Screw SportsCenter, screw the money, for the love of the game. That notion doesn't really exist anymore. Few and far between do players take a pay cut to stay with a team they like. I'm ranting so I'll stop. I don't think the recent trend of only fans is due just to the fans, it has a lot to do with the players.
Well, being born in a state without an NBA team, I grew up following Jordan and the Bulls, so... I can't say that there's really a special place in me for the championship era Rockets, or really any Rockets team before the 2000-2001 season. I have no connection to those teams but respect. But if it counts for anything, I've been true to the Rockets for almost 9 years, and nothing could ever make me root for another team against them.
i'm in agreement with you. that's what being a fan is about. if your team won the title and it can be reasonable argued that they deserved it, why not give them the benefit of the doubt, eh?
What if Orlando won the title this year, and we won the title next year. Dwight Howard was hurt when we won the 2nd title. And then everyone says that Orlando would have beaten us and that Dwight Howard would whip Yao, no contest? How would that make you feel knowing that head to head, Yao has been kicking Dwight's butt? you know as a fan of the R-O-C-K-E-T-S
Isn't it funny how the people who say we only think the Rockets' titles are legitimate because we see them through rose-colored glasses are almost always the same ones who think Jordan would have magically won eight straight titles just because?
Yeah, I wish the Rox couldve beaten seattle in 93. They wouldve whipped the suns whom they always beat no matter what, then played the bulls. The Rox and the spurs are the only teams jordan had alosing record against. The common denominator? Dream and Robinson. 2 agile 7 ft shot blockers that the bulls had no answers for. The rox were screwed in that ot game and they had chances to win it, but it was a great game. I don't care who does what, I just want the rox to win a ring. If yao, tracy, rafer go scoreless, I don't care. Its all about the front of the jersey.
