Crash. great thread and reasoning. 5 stars I would go with Hinrich i guess.. Acc to me.. PG is the most important position in a basketball team.. Alston is very annoying with his inconsistent shooting... Hinrich would be extremely useful in our offense simply because of his shooting.. a man will always hang around hinrich unlike the case with rafer. ... and Amare is overrated.. he might have good playoff scoring avgs.. but plz remember that he played in D'Antoni's offense with Nash at the helm.. and the guy is a cry baby too.. wants to be in the center of things.. thats a strict no-no here.. Yao is king in houston. period
I have seen enough. I was completly wrong about Artest. I understand he may be hurt, but it doesn't look like he is getting better at all. His ankle will be a big problem especially in the playoffs. I stil think he is a great player, great defender, but he will be probably gone after this year so if you can make a good deal (for example Hinrich who will be an upgrade) than get it done Mr. Morey!
Well just logged in this morning and I must have missed this post yesterday.. ALL I can say is WOW!!!! Really half the people on this board think we have all the pieces to win it now??? 1. We don't have a finisher on this team. 2. We don't have the shot blocking (only 1 person taller than 6"10 other than Deke on this team) 3. Are 3pt FG% is pretty crappy compared to years before. 4. DEFENSE (should be put at #1) is horrendous this year. 5. We are not athletic enough 6. Chemistry has yet to be figured out. I'm not saying were a good team because we are a GOOD team.. But not great. We are not champion caliber and to see that half this board thinks we is just insane... Do we have what it takes to get past the 1st round? Yes but I don't care about that I care about going all the way.. And us beating the Lakers in a 7 games series is far fetched.. Maybe we can squeeze two wins out.
Let's give Chicago more to work with. Probably package Alston with Head and Artest. Our forwards are solid. We have experience there in Scola, up and coming star in Landry, Dorsey's being developped, and if we keep Artest, well we have him in that 4 spot too. Do not upgrade the 4, we are great in that area. FIX THE 1.
If we made one of those two trades, I lean toward acquiring Amare. However, I don't think we have much chance to do it. Now, there are two aspects I don't think have been fully considered. Amare's contract could be over in a year while Hinrich's contract is multi-year. Also, it is a declining contract. Get over the $10M a year bit. With each passing year it goes down -- not up like Amare's contract.
Trade Artest / Head for Kirk Hinrich we only need a PG... keep Scola, he is the only consistent effort.
Out of these trades I would do the 1 for Hinrich. It fills a need we've had for years. I wouldnt mind Amare if I thought he could play in our system without Nash. But since we have Scola, Landry, and Hayes at PF I dont see it a weakness. He maybe a little expensive but we get a bigger Alston who can shoot and create for himself consistently. I just wish we could get him without trading Artest. Dammit. If Alston could only shoot we would be so much better.
why is everyone in love with Hinrich?? I honestly don't see none of these trades happening. Amare isnt going anywhere. I mean there rumors. Rumors happen in this business. If Amare gets traded fine but don't look for him 2 come here. You know les doesn't want to be over the luxury tax.
I prefer this one but one can only dream: http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=11~25~194~3018&teams=12~12~10~10&te=&cash=
I don't think half the board thinks we have it all--they just don't think either of these trades give us a better shot than we have now--the wording of the poll should have been different.
This is exactly how I feel. We need a better PG. We need to fix our teams problems. Not tinker with our gems(Scola,Landry). We where lucky to get Scola from SA for nothing and find Landy in the 2nd round. They're both productive on cheap contracts. Why change 1 of our positives and ignore our negative?
These are BOTH the deals i wanna see done... add rafer, and landry to the mix plus whatever to balance, a couple draft picks, and get both players... Ming/Amare/Battier/Tmac/Hinrich .... hopefully keep Brooks, probably still have Deke, Hayes, Wafer or Barry.... add a couple free agents... shaky on depth... but I'd have to call that the best starting lineup in the league.
I think Raja is exactly what we need provided we can make room for him in the rotation. I would do Ron Artest and Brent Barry for Raja Bell and Raymond Felton. Depending on the matchup, I would start Raja Bell to defend quicker teams and Battier to defend half-court teams.
Hinrich's contract reduces every year (unlike most contracts, which increase). It'll drop 1/2 a million every year, but even with that, I'd rather pass on both trades. I don't see Amare and Yao being a very good combination. Offensively, Amare plays best at center. Even with Kirk's contract dropping every year, I'm not 100% certain he'd be an improvement, and I don't want to pay that much for a backup. IF it was between the 2? I'd go with Kirk, because we actually need help there. I'm happy with our PF play. (Since it isn't my money, I'd trade Yao for Amare... yeah, I went there.)
