I *love* what this kid is doing. CFB is a joke where these programs chew these kids up and spit them out... like any of them go there to "learn" anyway. Why not go be a football player, like you've been training to be? Get paid, then move on over to the NFL...
I get giddy at the thought of having 3 football leagues to follow... Farm System/CFL (Put the kids who want to play football and have no business in college here) Academic/College Football (Kids who have no shot at the NFL but actually want a degree) Professional/NFL
I concur, screw the NFL and it's collusion with CFB. In a sport where how good your fans travel determines the kind of bowl games you get to go to, don't tell me it's not about the money. Plus this is a game where people are literally putting their health and careers on the line every game. The kid is only responding to the environment he's being around. The college football program does not care about the kids, I see no reason why the kids should care about these programs.
In College, are you going to pay the 3rd string safety the same as the starting quarterback? How would you determine who gets what? Will every player make the same amount and every school have the same amount to spend or will there be a salary cap? You think recruiting is bad now, imagine what it would be like if schools like Notre Dame is in the "bidding" for a top player. Also, an incredibly small percentage of college football players go on to play professionally. There are over 100 division one programs. There are over 8500 scholarship players on Division 1 teams. Not many of those will "move on" to the NFL.
Who said anything about paying college players money? So? Does that mean that someone shouldn't be allowed the chance to go to a farm league and get paid for their skill? Even if they don't make it pro, if they don't belong in academia, then there's nothing wrong with keeping them out, right? The point isn't for everyone in a farm league to "move on"... the point is to give them a proper outlet and venue to try and earn money and participate in a sport... meanwhile trying to maintain some sort of academic standards at colleges and prevent abuse of the system
Yeah...these kids are just all chewed up when they leave to make millions. The reason this system has been in place for so long is because everybody gets something out of it. The college - $$$$$$$ The kid - An education if he wants it, and all kinds of football training, experience and exposure. The NFL - A developmental league without having to pay for it.
LOL Every kid has a happy ending, holding a #1 jersey on a podium shaking Roger Goodell's hand, right?
No, but he has a shot at a good to great education. It is not our fault if he did not take advantage of it.
If you put someone who is incapable of suceeding in that environment, is it the kids fault, or the institution that lowered the bar to let him in?
If by CFL he means the Canadian Football League, he should probably stay in school to hone up on his math and probability skills. The salary cap is $4.2M (CDN -- I think) for the whole roster so I doubt anyone's willing to pay him anywhere near $5m/year!
Uh, you did? "CFB is a joke where these programs chew these kids up and spit them out... like any of them go there to "learn" anyway. Why not go be a football player, like you've been training to be? Get paid, then move on over to the NFL..."
Maybe you misunderstood me, but once they're "getting paid" by another league, they're not "college players" anymore, catch my drift?
I read somewhere only like 10 schools in the country turn a profit. The vast majority of schools lose money on athletics.
There was a CB from Alabama that was considering Texas and Bama. He had made it pretty clear for months that he was going to Bama. Yet, he still had a press conference with the 2 hats like there was some mystery to it, and proceeded to s*** on Texas during it. Like UT or not, there was no reason for the show.
