I don't follow Texas much, what are Abrams' chances of getting drafted? And if he does get drafted, around where?
Best case scenario is as a 2nd round project. He was supposed to take on more ball handling this season to work on his pg skills, but it hasn't happened. My guess is that he be on a summer league team and spend some time in the D-league. The kid can shoot, but he's too small to be a NBA 2.
Pretty much exactly my thoughts. He could also see some time in Europe or International play, but the NBA doesn't really seem feasible, IMO.
Longhorn homer here. He could be drafted in the second round. Guys who can shoot are always a premium, though he's too short to be a regular rotation player. If his shooting is consistently good in a training camp then he could make a roster. However-he's not a good ballhandler, can't play pointguard, and is too short for a SG. He's showing this year that he can't make his own shot and that's a problem. But, if he were a bench player who came in for 5-10 minutes a game and could drain a 3 he might be worth a late second round look. I'm not sure how good his defense is.
Too short, too slow, mediocre handles and has no hope of defending NBA players. He has enough trouble getting his shot off in college. No way he is drafted. His best hope is to get an invite to summer league, exceed expectations and (by a miraculous longshot) get invited to someone's camp.
He is a really good shooter, as everyone knows, and this year everyone of his shots are very difficult because there is no other outside shooting threat except him. Because of this, the team's best defender + another guy are always on him and are always switching on him. He has to take very difficult shots when needed and because of this he does not look as good as he used to (when kevin / augustin were at texas). He has been noted as one of the best defenders that Texas has had by Rick Barnes. On and off, Barnes takes mason off the opposing team's best player and puts abrams on, and abrams does very well. Despite all this, until he can get open, it will be very very hard for him to get drafted. I do think he will do well in summer leauge where team's do not base there defense around him.
abrams has little to no chance of making the nba... he might be a good towel boy or equipment manager
You know nothing about basketball or sports in general then. First of, Jameer Nelson is light years ahead of Abram in terms of strength. One glance between at either of them and you can tell who has the better chance of atleast MAKING it to the NBA. Second of all, Jameer Nelson is a legitimate pass-first PG and always has been, along with a good jumpshot and handles. Plus he has good length and athleticism for his size so he can overcome his height deficiencies somewhat. Abrams, on the other hand, can only shoot, shoot, and shoot. Then shoot some more. He's quick but is not explosive vertically or off the dribble. Simply, he's like Aaron Brooks but without the necessary athleticism, explosiveness, and speed to overcome his size deficiencies. It doesn't help that he's a 6'0 SHOOTING guard. This thread was useless from the beginning, sorry to say.
I'm not making comparing Abrams to Nelson as a PG. I just remember how Nelson was too short, wasn't a good enough shooter when and soo many if's in his game when the teams looked at him. Abrams is a sniper. He can shoot anywhere on the court. He can't learn speed or height but he has the shooters touch. I would say that if you can shoot then you can play in the NBA, I know people will bring up Luther Head but still, you can't count out before he gets a shot. 20 diet cokes says he gets drafted in the late first, early second round.
I love Jameer Nelson, and Aaron Brooks, but if you watched both of them play in college, they were quiet a bit behind where Abrams is defensively. Abrams is a very good defender, of course I still agree Jameer and Aaron are/were better NBA prospects than Abrams...
hahahah dude trust me. abrams is defintely NOT a first rounder, or a second rounder. it would be the biggest suprise in nba history if he does get drafted. Jameer Nelson was the national player of the year. he along with Delonte West almost carried St. Joes to the final 4. the biggest difference between Nelson and Abrams is Nelson could handle the ball and create his shot any time he wanted. Abrams struggles to dribble past halfcourt and can't create space for his jumper. Barnes tried playing Abrams at PG but that didn't work. basically, abrams is the college version of Rip Hamilton, except one thing, Rip is 6'7 and Abrams is 6'0. slim to none chance of abrams making the NBA my friend, but his jumper is wet.
I'm a UT fan and I completely agree with you. Abrams has a hell of a shot, but there is almost no chance he has a career in the NBA ahead. Damion James is about the only current player that does. Connor Atchley has played himself right out of any chance of playing professional basketball, period.
Abrams will have a nice career ... in Europe. There is no disgrace in that. He will probably have a million in the bank before he moves on to other things.
