hey guys i got another monitor for my laptop, set it up and everything is wonderful, however, i am wonder if i can close my laptop screen but still have the 2nd monitor working? basically when i close my screen on my laptop, the computer goes to sleep, i am wondering if i can get around it. i already set up 2nd monitor as my primary display so all the menus are displayed on this.

You just need to set the power options to not put the laptop into standby or hibernation when you close the lid. In XP, go to the control panel, then power options. Not sure on Vista, though. You would have to google it.

    Seconded

On Vista you can either click on the battery icon on the lower right corner of the desktop and select "More Power Options" or go to Control Panel and click on "Change battery settings" under Mobile PC

Just go to display settings and make the 2nd monitor your primary monitor.

And then set your options to not standby or hibernate, basically choose "no action" or "nothing" for the "when lid is closed" option...

in power options>choose what to do when closing the lid>do nothing.

Get to power options by right clicking the power/battery icon in your system tray (that bar across the bottom of the screen).

Best to do this only when plugged in though, unless you want your battery to run down.

    BTW- This was in Vista.
