Demo is out today! For those that didn't pre-order the game you can just make an EU PSN account and get it from there. Sadly my PS3 isn't hooked up to the Internet here in residence so I can only look around on forums. Any thoughts?
I just did it in 5 minutes. On the main menu when you turn on the ps3 go all the way to the left where the usernames are and make a new one just for this. Select that account, go to sign in where you usually sign in for the network and select make a new account. From then on just fill out the information like a normal account except use a different email address than your original one and make sure you put your country as United Kingdom.
Yup you do just that. You can put any EU country as far as I know, although the UK is definitely safe. You can access all the content in the EU store, but I believe you need an European registered credit card to buy any content. Same for Japanese/Asian accounts.
Okay. I jumped through all the hoops. Its downloading. edit: okay, super unimpressed by the demo. Simply another shooter. And I didn't fine the graphics to be all that spectacular (yes yes, demo I know). Its all on the multiplayer for me.
Wow that sucks. Unimpressed by graphics? A good portion of the reviews have made superlative claims about the graphics. But then again, they are just reviews... gonna have to see for myself tonight.
I've seen plenty of videos on gameplay and it looks great. Maybe it's just individual TV settings? I've heard nothing but good things about graphics. The main gripe is that the controls aren't like COD4's... BTW, there've been 1.1 million preorders in Europe of KZ2 with almost a month to go till release. Looks like it won't be a flop.
Thats cool. There's this podcast I listen to about games and the PS3. Two of the guys on there made a bet as to whether KZ2 or Little Big Planet would sell more after a set amount of time (something like 6 months). I actually thought LBP could do it, but looking at all the reviews and hype, I may have been wrong.
Does not look as good as MGS4. If anything, its because its a demo. I heard this would be the best looking game ever basically and it just doesn't do it for me. Maybe it was too hyped? Controls feel kind of cumbersome too.
Yeah that's the thing about the controls. Apparently they've really succeeded in adding the feeling of weight into the game, so you can't turn in half a second carrying a machine gun and other equipment. Only makes it more realistic.
Well...depending on how you define flop. I saw people saying that MGS4 sold poorly, and it sold ~4M copies. KZ1 sold like 2M+ copies, and it got terrible reviews (70 at Metacritic). KZ2 seems to be generating a similar amount of hype (if not more), and this time, it seems like the game is actually good. I don't have a figure in my head (quit trying to do that for PS3 games), but it should do pretty well. Hmm...well, I haven't checked out the demo yet, so perhaps I really should reserve judgment. But based on what I've seen in previous videos, MGS4 doesn't really come close to KZ2, especially on a technical level. I think that MGS4 might have the edge in character models (from cutscenes), although I actually haven't seen too many cutscenes from KZ2 that would give me a decent comparison. MGS4 did have some great art design, but I think KZ2 does as well (and as I stated, they are much further along from a technical standpoint). And FWIW, I think MGS4 looks great (probably top 5 graphics for consoles). But KZ2 has always seemed to be on a whole different level to me. Don't really think the demo has anything to do with it. Personally, I think even the real-time demo they gave at E3...um...2 years ago I think (?) was better than MGS4. Controls are pretty different from what I've read. In fact, I kind of got that sense from watching gameplay videos in the past. Might take some getting used to, especially for COD/Halo/etc. players.
Well a flop to me would be something like Haze. Selling 4 million of MGS4 was definitely not bad, considering the PS3's install base. When it becomes a Greatest Hit it'll sell at least another million. People around the net are predicting lifetime sales of around 6M. Definitely possible IMHO.
Played the demo, and the controls will definitely take some getting used to. The standard 1 option is pretty much like Halo controls where clicking R3 is to zoom (you have an option for holding or just clicking once to enable zoom). This would be fine if the shooting mechanics were like Halo. They are not though. Halo is about shooting from the hip and zooming isn't necessary. Killzone is more like COD where you pretty much need to use your iron sights each time you want to kill someone. Shooting from the hip is very inaccurate. So toggling zoom on and off with R3 just feels weird. The better setup is Alternate 2, and selecting hold to zoom. L1 is zoom under this control scheme, and this makes it pretty much like COD controls. The problem now is that you are required to hold L2 to stay in cover and at the same time press L1 to aim. I don't like using 4 fingers on the shoulder buttons, but in this game you'll have to. All they need to do is give us an option for pressing L2 once to get into cover instead of holding it (like Gears of War), and the controls problem would be solved. Hopefully they can add it in a patch or something. Regardless, everything else in the game seems super polished. The gunplay is fun, the AI seems very smart, and the weapons have real weight to them. The character movements also feel embedded in reality. It really helps with the immersion factor. The graphics are phenomenal in the game. The lighting is nuts and the animation is amazing. Some of the later levels where the devs use a lot of tricks with lighting should look just downright awesome. Feb.27th can't come soon enough!
It definitely isn't too bad...considering it outsold MGS3. But yeah, that's a pretty normal definition of a flop. I'm just saying that I wouldn't be surprised if some people said KZ2 is a flop if it "only" sells 2.5M-3M copies. Hmm...maybe on the high end. I'd probably expect MGS4-esque numbers. But if the multiplayer really takes off, I suppose 6M isn't too far off. It would help if they could get some "support" from Japan/Asia, but they'd probably be lucky to just get ~100K in sales there.
Gamestop called saying they are doing a midnight launch. If I am up around 11:30, I will go pick it up.
