Basically I'm looking for some good headphones or earbuds for the gym.. whether it's for my iPod while using weights, or for the gym's TVs while on their stationary bike or whatever. (so I don't want them to be ones that fall off/out easily...nor do I want horrible background noise, though noise cancellation isn't a requirement)

Any recommendations? I'd prefer to staying the $50 range or less, though I guess I could go up if people are REALLY sold on one particular thing.

These are a few I've found (first 2 were off a 2007 article, so they're certainly outdated):

Saw this one for $51, but I didn't see any reviews or whether they're good for the things I mentioned

There are a lot of really good in-ear monitors out there (IEM's), and the majority of them are designed to block out most external noise by essentially plugging up your ears.

Unless you will NEVER wear these phones in a place where you might want to still be able to hear a little bit of what is going on around you, such as jogging, riding a bike, or just walking around where there may be cars for example, then they are good. The Senn's are particularly good.

However, I would recommend you look for a pair of V-Moda Vibes. They are some of the best-sounding IEM's ever, in the $100 price range anyway, and since they are a couple years old now, you should be able to find them in your price range now. They allow you to still hear around you some, they are small and very comfortable, they don't fall out, and they sound spectacularly good.

JVC marshmallows 1 or 2(might be called air cushions). go to head-fi.org, they are very highly praised for being around $20. i own a pair of each, the marshmallow 2s are more confortable and looks better, but for sound quality, the 1s are better. hope that helped.

thanks for that.. i almost went out and bought them today. Unless someone says otherwise (against what you say about the gym and the SCL4's), I will go with the Sennheiser CX 500's I think..

I just returned a pair of $150.00 Shure headphones for repair/replacement (still under warranty.) They promptly sent me a brand new pair.

I think they would not be good for the gym b/c of the motion and wear and tear. They are a highly sensitive piece of equipment, that is why they sound so amazing, so I don't think they are meant to take a beating or survive a lot of perspiration from the ears.

Mine started getting static after about 6 months. I think I was too rough with them b/c I always wore them on my commute to work and I'd be constantly fiddling with my Ipod and whatnot. And I never used the supplied storage case to protect them when not in use.

I'll be taking much better care of the new ones.
