Sixers' forward Elton Brand is out for the season and could have shoulder surgery as early as Monday, a team source confirmed for the Daily News. Brand dislocated his right shoulder on Dec. 17 when he spilled to the floor awkwardly after being upended by Milwaukee's Luc Mbah a Moute. Brand signed a five-year, $80 million contract last summer. Only reason it is a tough blow for the Sixers is because what they paid to get him. They started playing better when he went out of the lineup.
I almost wonder if he elected to have the surgery to head off any trades. Mike Dunleavy is laughing hard right now. At 10-39, that's about all he could laugh about. That and a top pick which he'll try and use to get a 7-1 Yugoslavic SG. And now they collect the insurance on his salary. Win win! Evan
Brand hasn't fit in w/ the sixers what so ever. They were suppose to be one of the best teams in the east this season & turned into one of the biggiest flops. I hope he comes back next season and gets it together, I like his game & he's a good player.
Yes I agree with you. When he was in the line up at the beginning of the season they were playing some bad ball. As soon as he gets hurt, they play great. IMO they play way better without him and Andre Iguodala is playing some great ball.
I like Brand but he's one of the biggest losers in the NBA. Now he's an injury prone loser, sadly. Let's hope he comes back 100% next year and leads the Sixers to great places.
[ESPN] Elton Brand out for season http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3887072 Source: Brand to have surgery Comment Email Print By Marc Stein ESPN.com Elton Brand's first season in Philadelphia is coming to an abrupt ending. Sources close to the situation told ESPN.com on Thursday afternoon that Brand will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery Monday after a failed attempt to play through the injury. The Sixers' marquee summer signing has averaged a mere 5.7 points and 4.7 rebounds in less than 20 minutes per game in six outings since Dec. 17. He sat out 16 games after dislocating his shoulder in a home game against the Milwaukee Bucks. The former All-Star, who turns 30 on March 11, managed to play nearly nine minutes in Tuesday's one-point loss to the Boston Celtics, sitting out the entire second half. After an Achilles injury that limited him to eight games last season with the Clippers, Brand signed a five-year deal worth nearly $80 million with Philadelphia in July to end his six-season stay in Los Angeles. Marc Stein is the senior NBA writer for ESPN.com.
Elton Brand is the new Chris Webber. Always injured but still getting that fat contract. How many Agent 0's can the NBA tolerate.
Does anybody else get sick when they think about the fact that the Rockets have lost 2 games each to the Sixers, Pacers, and Grizzlies? Sixers were terrible with Brand, and they actually play better without him anyways, so for the locker room, I don't think this will affect anything.
Yeah Iguodala has been balling as of late. He started off slow, I guess because he had to adjust to Brand being there.
WTF! Yesterday news said MRI showed Brand's shoulder was healing. But actually Brand does the 76ers a favour to shut it down. Now, I am sure the 76ers can make the playoffs. Brand is the 2nd Chris Webber coming for the 76ers.
