IRS to tax employee stock purchase discount

In all seriousness, she's not my hero. But she's on the right side of this issue and I appreciate her effort. Although, speaking cynically, I think her objection is probably due more to a federal agency unilaterally implementing a tax (without Congressional approval) than any concern for the high-tech industry or the economy.

    This is just bad policy.

While I agree on your opinion of the policy, I must say that my hero is vastly different.

OK, I can die now. I've seen it all.

I have seen a thread on this BBS authored by Brian Kagy with the title "Hillary Clinton, You're My Hero".

I will now be skating home from work today. Hell has officially frozen over.

A congressional tax committee estimates that the change would result in the IRS collecting an additional $23 billion over the next decade.

This is one of those things I hate about "tax committees". They often state the value of a change as if the change itself won't affect behavior. Implement such taxes and you may see the behavior itself (the offering of these plans) essentially disappear as companies find new ways to attract and retain workers. Or workers themselves opt not to participate since it essentially lowers their paycheck in the short-term.

And I think it's about time we elected Ralph Hinkley/Hanley to Congress, by the way.
