At this stage in his career, do you guys think Barry could start at PG for the Rockets?

Defensively, he could not, but we could put him on the weakest of the 1, 2, or 3s of the other team.

I would love to replace Rafer with someone that can be a :

    1. Facilitator
    2. Shooter

Could it be Barry, would his body hold up?

    I mean start:

    Barry - PG
    Tmac - SG
    Battier - SF
    Scola - PF
    Yao - C

Let Battier chase the other team's PG on D......

What do you guys think? Is this another crazy DD idea, or could it work?

Name me more than 3 contending teams where Barry can match up against the weakest 1, 2, or 3 for a team and not be in a huge mismatch.

He's too old and too slow to play the starting PG.

Coming off the bench would be an better option for him.

Honestly do you EVER see Battier cover a PG? I don't think I can remember once. I think he is way to slow to cover even an average PG- and lets not even think what the better quicker ones will do to him.

Yeah...but I don't think he can run the fast break or be a threat to penetrate even a little to get the Defense moving a bit. He's a great passer but He'd have to get the ball to Yao, and I haven't seen him do that this season.

I see were you're going with this and I like it!

But you've got the wrong guy!

Aaron should definitley be starting over Rafer.

I think a big reason he fell into that shooting slump is that he lost his rythm and if he would have consistent and extensive minutes I beleive he would be the best PG we have had in a while. ;)

No. Because he can't defend fast and strong PG's like Paul and D Williams.

    Crazy DD idea. :)

I'd like Barry to get some more minutes when the matchups are more favorable for him, but he's best when used alongside Aaron Brooks.

If you're fine with your starting PG only playing 15-20 minute per game, then....errrr, still no. :)

I like barry in the 2nd unit getting around 15 minutes a game but as a starter and the prospect of guarding anyone in the starting lineup on the opposing team is not a good one.

Tell me again what Alston does that is so amazing? His defense is over-hyped. Barry pushes the ball, is a far better passer, free throw shooter, finisher, 3 point shooter and would fit better as a spot up shooter playing with facilitator Tmac. I'd be for barry playing 15 minutes and AB playing 33 minutes at point guard. Anything is better than the career 35% fg shooting Brickster Alston.

No, not anymore. We still need a 'real' third PG since we all know Luther doesn't qualify. Not a star just a guy that can play some spot minutes if Rafer or Brooks ever have to miss any time.

Barry would not push the ball better than Alston, and he wouldn't run the PnR as well as Alston either because he can't penetrate into the middle effectively. The few times I've seen Barry run a PnR this season, the results weren't good.

Also, Barry's great strength, by far, is his 3-point shooting. He's a good ball-handler and passer, sure, but primarily he should be utilized as a spot up shooter. Putting him in a starting PG role is not maximizing his strengths.

I actually thought about it. I thought that Barry took the PG job in the 2nd unit was a good idea espically when Brooks played like crap and was not shooting well.

Barry at 1, Wafer at 2 in the 2nd unit is not a bad idea. Then at the defensive end, switch Wafer and Barry. Wafer still has the quickness and size to cover a backup PG.

    Everything was reasonable until this..

    1. Battier chasing a PG around doesn't seem like a good speed matchup. It also removes him further from the basket, and I feel that Battier is better closer in (think of the charges he takes)

    2. Who're you going use to guard the other teams wing? No-D McGrady? BARRY? Let's face it.. the elite scorers in the NBA are mostly wing or swingman type players. If you use Battier guarding the PG, McGrady/Barry are going to get lit up. Can you imagine McGrady or Barry chasing around a Kobe or a Lebron?

Just imagine when we play SA:

    battier on parker
    tmac on manu

    or Cleveland:

    battier on mo
    tmac on james

if tmac at one, wafer at 2, that's another story ....

Barry on defense against any good team is like clubbing baby seals.

Start McGrady at PG with Wafer at SG. Force Wafer to step up on D and cover the opposing PG. He's got more than enough speed and he'd also have a size advantage.

    McGrady
    Wafer
    Battier
    Scola
    Yao

    Brooks/Alston
    Barry
    Artest
    Landry/Hayes
    Deke (he needs minutes)
