A game with the foreign players against the US all-stars instead of the western/eastern conference thing. The west is so much stronger than the east now that this could actually be more balanced.

    How about this lineup:

    PG: Nash, Tony Parker
    SG: Stojakovic
    SF: Nowitzki, Kukoc, Kirilenko
    PF: Duncan, Gasol
    C: Mutombo, Yao Ming, Divac

Other candidates would be Ilgauskas, Turkoglu, Magloire, Olowokandi, Wang Zhi-Zhi, Rick Fox, etc. SG would be the weakest (thinnest) position right now, I put Stoja there although he would probably be labeled more of a SF. Size wouldn't be a problem with at least 5 guys of the top 11 who are 7 foot and above. Even the defense should be ok with Mutombo, Gasol, Kirilenko etc. who are defensive specialists.

I think this team would beat any team the US could come up with. Even if you took Duncan (Virgin Islands) out and put him on the US team, this team would still have a good chance.

    Bring it on! :)

Hmm, what would be the US team...

    PG: Kidd, Payton, Francis
    SG: McGrady, Carter, Allen
    SF: Pierce, Marion
    PF: Garnett, Webber
    C: Shaq, Zo

with Walker, Rahim, etc. etc. also being candidates.

Hmm...perhaps I need to reconsider my statement that the international team would beat any team the US could come up with...but it would surely be an interesting game!

Duncan already play for the Dream Team.

    A team of
    Shaq
    Duncan
    Garrnett
    McGrady
    Kobe
    Webber
    Payton
    Iverson

    Would destroy that team.

Damn, I didn't even have Kobe and Iverson in there. Okay, okay, you still rule...but I predict that within the next 7 or 8 years, you could put an international team together that would beat the best US players.

They do this in hockey, you know. Sounds like a good idea to me.
A little more interest - no one cares about east west.

In the NHL it's north amerika vs the rest of the world. That works well because every other player in the NHL is a european. I don't think this would work out well in the NBA though. Ther's way to few foreign players in the leauge. Maby in the future.

"foreign team" definitely has the edge over US on shooting! however, with Iverson at the point, kobe at the 2, Garnett at the Webber at pf, and my man Shaq in the middle, we would destroy the foreigners.

    It'd be a good game though!!!!!!!!!1

isn't duncan from somewhere in the carribbean originally? he'd be on the foreign team...

sean deveney (sp?), a sports columnist for TSN, wrote an article on this exact topic and put duncan on the foreign team for that very reason

i don't think Stern would do this. because the world team would have a great chance of winning.

Peja,Nowitzki, Gasol, Nash. and more are great players, i would defenitly like it. u.s.a versus the rest of the world. i think it would be more of a contest between the team than there is now.

With the only difference being that the rest of the world doesn't get to put all the best players into one team...

I can honestly see this happening one day but I think it's still a little too early. There really are not enough great forgien players in the NBA yet. Also consider how many US born players would have to be left off the American team. Ben Wallace, Stackhouse, Finley, Brand, Walker, J. O'Neal, Baron Davis and A. Miller would all have to be left off of that team. In order to include them on the American team the World team would also have to add more players and there really are not that many great All Star worthy forien players in the NBA yet. Give it about 5 years though and there should be enough players for both sides.
