What did he average in the 4th quarter during last year's playoffs? Also, can you show us the stat that illustrates how many times he has lead a team out of the first round? Thanks
Him scoring less doesn't directly correlate with us advancing.
Misconception will lead you to believe that, but it is not true. We need McGrady to score as much as he can, along with Yao doing as much as he can to advance in the playoffs.
This thread is just to show you that McGrady is more than capable of doing his part. Since he isn't the number 1 guy anymore, it is up to Yao to do the lion's share of the work. Is Yao capable, and more importantly ready to do that?
I did alot of research also. 2 glaring stats for a so-called superstar 1. Never got out of the 1st round of the playoffs. 2. I believe he lost 19 straight one time in the regular season. No so-called superstar would have the 2nd stat on their resume.
I just find it hard to fault the guy for not advancing in the playoffs while Yao gets continuous free passes as the second(or first) best player on the team.
Hamza - good thread, thank you for the research. Last year he was pretty good in the playoffs, but why omit the 2 previous trips to the playoffs in Houston? The problem with Tmac, is in the way he plays, teams will let him get comfortable through the first 3 quarters, driving, passing etc...but in the 4th quarter they switch tactics and all of the sudden everything he has done all game is gone, and he and the team have been unable to react. Tracy needs to change his game and trust his teamates EARLY in the shot clock too, give them a chance to make a play FOR him rather than him making all the plays for them. I think he can, I am hopeful. Again, good thread....but based on a very small sample size in which he played better than the first two times in the playoffs in Houston. DD
Stop living in the past. Tmac had far better statistics and passed the eye test in the regular season last year, and actually every regular season and playoffs before this season he was one of the best players in the NBA. This season is a totally different animal. This entire season thus far he has been poorly conditioned, lacking effort, playing terrible defense, shooting a very poor percentage, not attacking the basket, perpetually injured, and a locker room distraction. He has not struggled like he has this season his entire Rockets career. That's why you cannot extrapolate his previous postseason success to this year's playoffs, which the Rockets are in danger of missing largely due to his struggles by the way. Also, we never had a capable substitute to Tmac like we do this season in Von Wafer. He's been a godsend. If the coach and the organization believes Von Wafer will give us a better chance to win in the playoffs than Tmac, then bench Tmac like the Knicks did with Marbury and let's give Wafer the playing time he needs to further refine his game and work on his weaknesses in time for the postseason. We can win it all with Yao, Artest, Von Wafer, and a great close knit supporting cast- look no further than the 22 game winning streak to see the power of a true TEAM. This year's Tmac is not the Tmac of the past anymore.
First off, please don't ever quote a post that long ever again.
Ok, now lets examine the "clutch" stats for T-Mac and compare them to Lebron's

T-Mac:

Lebron:

McGrady with better offensive and defensive stats during the last five mins. Better FG% Assisted on more plays nearly identical in free throws Lebron with more driving, McGrady only scoring on jumpers..
So, even though McGrady only scored off of jumpers, they were about equal in terms of efficiency and scoring, with the slight edge going to McGrady for certain things, and Lebron for others..
The guy's averaging career lows in numerous categories this year. He's averaging around 15 ppg on 38% shooting. Does anybody seriously think he's going to just turn it on this year in the playoffs? If he's sucking this hard in the regular season chances are good he'll continue to suck this hard in the post-season. And there's a real question in my mind as to whether the team's better without him.
I only used stats from the previous post season because they are the most recent and most relevant. They seemed more applicable to refute the points of T-Mac not offering "that much" during the playoffs (which by the way, he clearly does).
FYI...Kevin Garnett's playoff record in his first 7 trips...maybe its the adidas curse! 96-97 First Round Exit 97-98 First Round Exit 98-99 First Round Exit 99-00 First Round Exit 00-01 First Round Exit 01-02 First Round Exit 02-03 First Round Exit Go Rockets!
Tmac has put up good numbers in the playoffs, but the point is, we are talking about Tmac 2009, not Tmac 2005, or eve 2008. Should the Rox bet the season on Tmac gaining his form with half the season over with? That is the 20 million dollar question.
very true point!
Garnett only able to make it out of the first round once in his entire career and then wins a championship last year with an amazing supporting cast. Point: We have an amazing supporting cast this year. They have to step up though! It has to be Yao who takes charge so we don't over rely on T-Mac. We have the potential. T-Mac has done, and most likely will do his part. It is up to the rest of the guys to step up and do theirs..
