So me and the wifey are packing up and moving to Williamsburg, VA. We're leaving Sunday A.M. and just going to take our time getting there. Will stay with my mom for 2 to 3 days and moving into our apartment in Virginia on Friday. Woo hoo!
spring is nice.. but kinda short and not worth the cold (when you're from houston, at least... i realize it gets much colder when you go north).
I lived nearby (Hampton Roads) for a lot of my childhood and attended William & Mary there. Is this a job opportunity or school? Really nice, quiet place to live. Winters are long and a bit ugh (cloudy, 40s to 50s, rainy), but it's gorgeous from April to October. Only big downsides are the militant state police and the taxes. Evan
I'm moving simply because it'd be a better place to raise kids then a big city. My wife has been in Houston all her life and I'm originally from North Carolina so I have alot of family over that way.
Good to know you're thinking about what's best for your kids. We went through the same process when living in Atlanta. We looked around and said, "What the hell are we doing raising a kid in Atlanta?" We ended up going west, but W-burg is a good place to end up. I went to grad school at UVA and bummed around W-burg a bit back in the day. Winters weren't that bad, and are probably easier where you'll be than Charlottesville. Good luck and drive safely.
What about your wife and your work back in Houston? Did you get relocated? Do you happen to work for the government?
Man, it would be very hard for me to leave Houston. At least on my own will. If I was offered a really good job, then yeah. I'd try to suck it up but it'll probably be very tough for me to swallow.
I lived in Richmond and blacksburg for about 4 years... eh, its pretty boring... but it grows on you.
Good luck. Virginin is fairly scenic. I'm not a big fan of the state, but its all what you make of it.
same here.. most of my immediate family members are here.. i've been to VA and from what i've seen it's a very beautiful state
