He wasn't brought here for his outstanding offensive production. Of course this whole team will suffer if all three go down. Stop hating for the sake of hating.
Battier has become Hayesian in his offensive production of late, so maybe the subject line is right, no?
i only bring this up b/c our role players haven't been able to make shots in the playoffs to help yao and tracy out. eventually, we're going to need shane to make 2-3 big shots in a close game for us to have a chance at winning. or rafer. or wafer. or brooks. but b/c shane plays the most minutes out of all these guys (along with rafer), his offensive output can decide a game.
Maybe Battier is hitting that Bruce Bowen phase...where he suddenly just lost a step (due to age or injury)? This question isn't me complaining about the trade (I've done that enough already). Can anyone recall the prices of players like Battier...basically defensive specialists with intangibles? Posey cost roughly the MLE. The Lakers didn't give up much for Ariza. Bowen was cheap. Elie was cheap. But I guess in some of those cases those players were acquired before they got major PT?
Shane has gone downhill a lot this season. Sometimes, even his defense was not that good. A lot of players scored even when Shane was in good defensive position. Maybe the injury really slowed him down.
i don't think we can sub artest for shane though. it's obvious we cannot play our 3 stars at the same time for too long (except to end the game). wafer is like scola; he's a scorer but struggles on D. but both hustle. just put wafer in at SG and tracy at SF. as tracy gets healthier, make him more accountable on the defensive end. just start like that for 5 mins in the first and bring shane in. i don't have a problem with shane actually. if he plays like this in 15 mins/game, NO PROBLEM. 15/48 minutes is ok. 35/48??? now that's a big problem. if a guy who plays 35 mins don't score, that puts more pressure on other guys to score.
i like shane just because he prevents artest from starting alongside t-mac and yao thus having our entire offense crumble in the first quarter.
Shane just makes yao better, enough to say. His ability to pass to the post is just excellent. Remember the game which ron saved us in overtime by continuous posting up. Shane made excellent passes facing rough D. Other players would just throw it away or pass the ball another guy. People just don't realize what shane does. Pass is nothing to some guys on this forum. Playing alongside with yao is difficult and many of our players are just evidence.
atomicmagnobomb needs to get off shanes nut sack. hes killin the team right now.. thats absurd of u to say that battier is makin yao better by throwin entry passes get that booty chatter outta here. he is playin 30 + minutes a game and is doin nothin but standin in the corner on offense and gettin torched by the other teams best wing cuz his defense has been VERY overrated all year. he is chuck hayes on offense its like were almost playin 4 on 5.. and 4 a guy whose supposed to be a "3 point marksman" him shootin 38% is horrible cuz offensively thats all he does
The original Battier bashers were upset cuz he didnt give back value for what they gave up, a #8 pick in the draft. Mad that Battier got extra ratings points from people so the trade can look more justifiable But tough stuff - blame the front office for being stupid and ruining the team. If the Rockets trade Yao for Mark Blount, Mark Blount has never before and never will make up the talent and production difference. And you'll never trade Mark Blount to another sucker. Sucks when you acquire a bad assett. So then its if the player is at least productive ENOUGH for your club. And right now, Battier really isnt quite that guy...he just can't be around 35 mpg now at his current level. He's passed up open looks, and 1 time when he drove to the basket he passed the ball OUT when he was merely 2 feet away from finishing. He wasnt playing within limitations, he just simply didnt cash it in when he's at least halfway capable. Thats bad basketball and gets most players a minutes reduction.
i thought this forum was for rockets' fans???? i expect this type of critique from fair weather fans and fans from other teams, not from Houston fans. Houston fans should know battier has never played with 3 all star type players here. Houston fans should know we've never had this many offensive options while shane was here. Houston fans should know Shane isn't a great offensive players. Houston fans should know Shane is more than willing to let others do what THEY do best, if they do it better than he, and he'll stick to what he does best. Do you guys honestly expect him to score 12-15 pts a game, when others guys are scoring too? We had THREE guys score 20 or more tonight. There's only one ball, one game. Do you prefer Shaqne launching threes or do you prefer Yao working the post, brooks slashing and shooting, landry cleaning up the boards and ron bullying his way inside??? Yes, he's limited offensively, but HE IS A ROLE PLAYER. That's his role, get over it, it's not a knock on him, it's what it is. The guy is scoring a lot less and almost everyone thinks the only logical answer is that he's missing more, but he's SHOOTING LESS, so of course he's going to score less. His shooting percentage the 3 games prior to tonight? 50%, 50%, and 80%. Yes, he's had some bad shooting slumps prior to that, but he's shooting too few shots for it to be a problem. if he shoots 1 of 14, that's, 25%, but guess what, had one shot not rimmed out he'd be at 50%!!.....worry about Rafer's 25% shooting, which will be something like 3 of 12. Also notice he's shooting a lot less free throws, probably because he's leaving the paint open for Yao and Ron, as well as Aaron, landry, scola, etc. that's a lot of guys who all have a better offensive game. Don't be upset because Battier is doing less offensively, be glad new and upcoming offensive weapons forced him aside.
Can someone tell me why the rox gave up less points and a lower fg% the 1st 15 games without shane than at any point in the season?
He DID come back from surgery this year, he DID have a set back. Early on, even when he played he had to rest in between games due to swelling and soreness. He's a step slower. He, like tmac, didn't have a training camp, then had to shut it down. You cant get into game shape that way. I would be very surprised if he doesn't pick it up as the season keeps moving along.
Since when? Everytime I look up, his man is down there checking the size of Yao's ding-dong. U need to watch the game.
Because Ron came in acting like he'd lose money if the other team score. Remember how intense his D was like the first few minutes of every game, how hype he was, he was out there getting steals back to back, inspiring and motivating guys...then he turned it down and it wore off, not sure if it was due to the injury, but he wasn't as intense after a while.
Shane"my man checks Yao's ding-dong because I can't drive" Battier has to go. We're not even going to talk about the playoffs.
