Saw this tonight. Overall enjoyable...but, Spoiler I loved the action and the ass kicking, but it just seemed that everything fell into place too easily for Liam. He was able to track down everyone in hardly no time at all. I have a hard time believing he was able to escape harm early on as much as he was shot at. As he moved along the bad guy food chain, each guy seemed to be more over the top than the previous guy, finished of course by the creepy sheik on the boat...please. On second thought, maybe this wasn't that good of a movie.
Yes, but the execution wasn't as good in this one. Maybe it need to be longer to stretch the plot out a little more.
saw it also, thought it was great too.. Spoiler in a way I agree with your argument for it being to easy for him, but then again, he was an Retired Government Security person, so it was natural with what he did, plus thats what happens in movies. Is it realistic? HELL NO, but wouldn't be surprised if someone was actually able to pull this off, but in 96 hours? I would be impressed. I kinda felt for him in the beginning where he thought he was going to spend time with his daughter, then they just met up to get him to sign the damn permission paper, I would've acted more pissed off btw, so his friend in Paris knew the whole scheme going on? Seemed like he knew all along and is just part of the government, wanted to keep his job. the whole underground prostitution angle caught me off guard, I know it happens, but damn, I was surprised it was a PG-13 movie, they didn't show anything, but the fact that **** happens, is downright sad. Holly Valance was smoking, the pop singer, and Famke Jassen is still hot even though she was getting up there in age. highly recommend it, will be pissed off if Paul Blart is still number 1 come Monday
Liam Neeson is my hero. When i saw the trailer, i thought it was gonna be like every other stupid thriller that i avoid (even the name sounds stupid). i only watched it because a friend recommended it, and i'm glad i did. the movie is a ton of fun; you really can't expect anything more, least of all for it to be plausible.
I give this movie a C. Take away the first 25 minutes and you have a solid B movie, maybe B+. The action was okay to good. It's no where near as good as the Bourne series (which is the benchmark of action movies). The acting and writing in the non-action scenes are pretty bad. I love french movies, used to live in France, and I'm not anti-french at all, but some french directors just do a terrible job of interpreting american life. That's not to say american directors all do a great job. So yeah, imo the movie should have started at the trailer. The first third, while necessary to a point, is no better than the average Steven Segal foreign-made-for-USA cable network weekday afternoon movie. Man on Fire had better depth. A History of Violence, while overrated, had better writing and acting. Overall, I see this film as having similarities to Man of Fire and A History of Violence, but not as good as either.
I saw this movie months ago. It's been out forever in Europe. I enjoyed it. It wasn't exactly the smartest movie but it's good fun.
I tend to stay away from Liam Neeson's fake "I am serious but I come across as an actor" type monologues, like the one in the trailer, and the "I could have saved one more" fake acting in Schindler's List. I really really hated his QUI GON JIN fake English accent. A friend recommended this and we might see it at home on DVD regardless of Neeson. Thanks for the recommendation.
