Because then a team would have a VERY legitimate beef as to why serious instant replay should be instituted. The replays show very obviously that Davis's shot was off in time. There should be no argument. The ref made a bad call, and if the Hornets lose in OT, it will have ripped victory from their hands.

I thought the rule was more than .5 seconds you can catch it and shoot it. I thought they had that rule because its hard to judge the time with under one second left. That's exactly what Baron did. He caught it and shot it about as quick as anyone possibly could. So, what's the problem?

    Terrible!

Unfortunately, it looks like the Hornets will win in OT, so the refs won't take as much flak for that horrible call as they should. But this is still a VERY valid reason why instant replay should be instated....at least for last second shots like that. Maybe allow each coach to call for one instant replay "review" similar to NFL at the end of regulation and any OT periods. There are easily ways to implement this idea that won't slow down the game considerably, so I see no reason to not at least try it.

Fortunately, the gods were kind to the Hornets. I would still complain to the NBA anyway if I were them.

Now that the Hornets won ... thank goodness! However, I don't see how Hornets losing the game would have made it a more legitimate reason for the league to consider instant replay. The league should consider it no matter what, due to the inability of the referees it hires. Plus, Hornets losing the game would only make the call look more terrible.

And that Baron thingy ...

Perhaps legitimate was the wrong word. What I meant was the Hornets losing would have made their case more convincing, because it would mean the call resulted in the wrong team winning. Since the Hornets won, it makes any complaint they make seem a little less valid since the result was the correct one anyway.

yeah, if the hornets had lost, it'd be plastered all over ESPN for days...

didn't the Rockets get robbed once in the playoffs like that a few years back? I remember Maxwell shooting a 3 as time expired... he hit, but the refs said time had expired... replay showed that it had not...

and they were playing the lakers, making it even more suspicious... is my imagination playing tricks on me? anyone else remember this?
