Based on recent elections, there is going to be a lot more mandating of your life in the near future. Don't you realize that the Government knows whats best for you.

I fully agree. Matter of fact, I know one rather obese person who buys those store brand pound cakes every week!!! Hopefully, at some point, the govt. will be able to regulate grocery lists and prevent this kind of insanity.

I like it. If you like the salt, add it yourself. I wish they'd do the same thing with sodium in food. As someone who has problems with kidney function, it's ridiculous trying to find packaged foods that don't have a ton of sodium.

My daughter is allergic to milk, wheat, peanuts, soy, and eggs. I think the government should do something for her, I mean its ridiculous trying to find anything for her.

I can't believe how so many people here think this much government regulation is a good thing ... People don't know what freedom is anymore I guess

I don't know if this is a good thing, but it's getting to the point where it's necessary. What happens when 20 years down the road half our country is obese (Texas is supposed to be at 40% in the next 30 years) and health care costs are skyrocketing? This is a very clear and very preventable problem, and if this attempt does nothing but raise some degree of awareness, it's a positive. Everyone is complaining about government regulations (or lack there of) leading to our current economic crisis. Well, they see a crisis on the horizon here and are dealing with it. It seems we can't appreciate that until we're neck deep in a problem.

This is why I hate some Democrats. I feel like eating BBQ. Bloomberg and the other health nazis can bite me.

You know, with how moronic people are regarding their health these days, you almost have to. Being a personal trainier and knowing a lot about nutrtion and teaching nutrition to ignorant people, I can tell you that the average person is obvlivious to common health knowledge. It's truly sad.

So much money is lost and wasted on treatment (see health insurance costs) that you almost have to babysit people because they have the knowledge of a child when it comes to what's in their food. There's a reason that our country has such high health care costs for a 'developed nation' and that childhood obesity is an epidemic. People are just plain uneducated.

Really stupid comparison. Sodium in the amounts that foods have today is dangerous for you. I cannot find packaged foods that aren't loaded with sodium. If I had an allergy to peanuts I just wouldn't eat peanuts. One is a society wide health issue and the other is specific to those who are allergic.

Freedom in this case is your illusion of reality. Companies do what is profitable for them regardless of societal consequences until government threatens them to stop. That's how it really works.

You would REVOKE a person right to eat what they want . . .because it is good for them.
Why not outlaws Motorcycles. . . skateboards . .. boungie cords

I mean . . .i understand . .there is a GOOD REASON to do these type things
but the cost is just too high

I am very protective of my personal liberties.
I mean we want to regulate the person severely.
We want the government tell us what to eat, who to eat with it and how to dress to eat???

No where in my post did I say I was for it. I just made the statement that people are uneducated. I think the key to all the health problems of today is to teach nutrition in elementary school. At least then, people could make a conscious decision about what they're putting in their bodys. Something needs to be done to help people but I don't think strict regulation is the way to go. I'm for educating people and then letting them decide for themselves.

Oh I know. We're in very dangerous territory. While people play the blame game of democrats vs. republicans our rights are being slowly ripped away by both parties. I don't see two parties, I see one government and there is a huge problem with personal freedoms and liberties. The government won't go the educational route with anything though. People who are ignorant are like sheep and are easily dupped and controled. It's like the things in this forum. People say republicans this or democrats that...well, aside from the letter by a person's name, they're really all the same. I wish people would realize that. Bush and the republicans enacted a lot of things that eliminated personal freedoms (all in the name of safety right). It's ideas like this that show the democrats want the same thing...it's just a different pitch (all in the name of safety though right?)

The government isn't saying you can't eat salt, they're saying the amount of salt in food has gone up substantially over time and they want to reduce it to prior levels as a measure to lower health costs. If you want to add salt to everything you eat then knock yourself out but then it will be you making a choice to do that unlike now where you really have little choice not to have that salt in the product.

Instead of bans, I would tax the hell out of it and put the proceeds in a treatment fund (that politicians would inevitably pilfer).

Healthcare is a finite commodity. A 2nd quadruple bypass might be good notice to put down that burger and hold the fries.

I was being sarcastic, hoping fredfred would see how ridiculous it is to have the state governor deciding how much salt I should be eating. Next thing you know, they'll be regulating how much hot sauce you can put on food.

....until people who smoke and eat too much stop using my tax dollars and health insurance premiums and pension monies etc to subsidize their future medical problems.

uh, thats the point of tax dollars... to subsidize stuff for everybody. Feel like building your own highway? You think your health insurance premium was calculated based on just you?
