Will you call someone back even if they don't leave a voicemail?

If someone calls you and you have their number on caller ID, but they didn't leave a message, do you call them back? It seems most people have a policy on this. My wife always calls back regardless of voicemail. I will not call back unless they leave me a message asking me to call. My cube-mates at work are split.

I have a theory that extroverts will call back, because they're always itching to talk to people anyway. Introverts will have a no-call-back because talking to people is work.

Introverted, would not call back (unless it was a close friend or family member).

I figure if it's important enough, they will leave me a message. And yes, I do considering talking, at least on the phone, to be work.

It all depends on who called.

Well that's the thing, if a name pops up and I know who it is, I'll call back. If it's just a number and I have no clue who it is and there's no message, I won't call back.

Introvert. My policy is that if it's important, they'll leave a message. I mean, why wouldn't they leave a message?

I also never answer the phone if I don't know the number...

Maybe I need to rethink not leaving voicemails when I call.

Usually I call people just to see what they are up to. Wouldn't it be awkward to to leave a voicemail saying "Hey so-and-so, just seeing what you were doing. Take it easy. Later."

    Ditto.

If it's someone I talk to regularly, I'll call them back in most cases. Unique/rare callers I don't usually call back unless they leave a voicemail.

I find voicemails annoying. I have caller ID - ergo I know you called. It's more efficient to simply call you back and find out what's up, as opposed to calling and listening to voicemail, only to then call back.

If the voicemail is a direction, without need to talk to me further, text me.

Given the above, voicemail is a waste.

I don't always return calls with a voicemail, much less without. Want to talk to me? Call me when I can answer.

Depends who called usually. However, if it's important they'll leave a message.

Now the real question is do you pick up if it's a number not programmed in your phone? It may mean you're a bit extroverted if you do. How about a number not programmed in your phone and you miss it and they don't leave a message? Do you call that number back?

If I know the person I'll call them back or shoot them a text. I won't call back a random number that didn't leave a voice mail.

I consider myself somewhat extroverted but I will generally not return calls if they don't leave a voice message. Its not that I don't want to talk to people but I get a lot of marketing calls, survey calls and etc. that I screen a lot of calls and if they don't leave a message I'm going to presume it was something along the lines above. If its a number from someone I know I'm going to presume it isn't something important or they dialed my number by mistake.

I'm introverted and will call back if it is a number in my phone. If I don't know the number I don't call. Leaving me a voicemail doesn't make me any more likely to call you back. I tell people I know not to leave me voicemails because I don't want to take the 20 seconds to delete it.

I tend to call back as that's what the missed call is for...maybe they didn't have a chance to leave a message or didn't feel the need to...I know they called so I'll call back...

    Agreed.

If it isn't important enough to leave a message, it isn't important enough to call back.
