I saw it today and thought it was a great movie. Well acted, well filmed, beautiful cinematography, etc. I could nitpick at stuff, but then, I'm sure if I ever saw the "perfect" movie, I wouldn't like it anyway! This movie was just a really really really good movie. I can't comment on best picture of the year, as the last movie I saw in the theater before this one was Batman- Dark Knight. But I personally liked it better than No Country for Old Men, Crash, Million Dollar Baby, Chicago, Shakespeare in Love...all of which have won Best Picture Oscars recently. I have seen none of the other nominees this year. Last year, not that I didn't like No Country, but Atonement aside (I didn't see), I thought the other 3 nominees were all better (Juno, Michael Clayton, There Will Be Blood). The year Million Dollar Baby won, I thought The Aviator, Finding Neverland, and Sideways were all better. Good film today. Since I saw a matinee and it was only $5 bucks, even better!
just got in from the 4pm showing at the greenway 24. great movie, and some fairly intense moments. i'd like to see the other movies that this one is up against, but this has to be a strong candidate.
who says he's a representative...it's a one in a million chance that this fairy tale could happen...which makes the movie all the more to enjoy it and take home the oscars...
i am also from south india...and agree with u very much seeing as how all this controversy surrounds the movie is only a cover up of how we are in denial of how we do treat the ppl from the slums..
You have to be proud about Slumdog winning the cast...and guys...you should read that article that OCballfan put up!!
I dont think they over glorified the slums...i mean i dont think anyone walked out of that movie thinking "man i want to live in the slums". I mean the kids where living untop of piles of trash...and jumping into feces...but i think these kids were just trying to make the best out of a terrible situation, kids just want to have fun thats all...just because they live in the slums doesnt mean they cant play cricket...or have fun...
It's a pretty good movie, but I think it's overhyped...sure it's better than 90% of the crap that Hollywood produces, but that's not saying much.
I speak Malayalam, understand a little Kannada... but I do think that all this controversy around the slums is a little out of hand...it was just to show how they lived...period...and you see all these articles debating about the cause and stuff...that's so stupid!
I liked the movie...but you really liked this movie. I heard today from an Indian friend of mine that there are better movies from India and that he didnt understand all of the hype. I dont remember any other besides 'Monsoon Wedding' that I liked personally.
there are better movies in india...and im not going to lie...i really like this movie bc of all the hype it has been receiving...sorry for the excessive posting.. has anyone heard of 'chandni chowk to china'?
So I'm really late to this thread, but I saw Slumdog for the first time tonight. I really loved the soundtrack and cinematography, they were both fantastic. I also liked the end...for some reason the dance number seemed cheesy at first, but I liked seeing the younger characters again, and that song (I guess the theme?) is badass. At the end though, when I was sizing up the whole movie, it just didn't really scream Best Picture. I can't quite put my finger on it. I'm off to ponder. Maybe the expectations were too high.
I saw it for the first time yesterday, too. And I felt the exact same way. The movie was better when they were little kids. Once they were grown up I felt a bad taste in my mouth. The Dark Knight was far, far, far better for me (and I am Indian).
