Does anyone use a WaveLan wireless card in their laptop? If so, does your laptop tend to run hotter (i.e. fan comes on) when using it?

My Netgear card runs fine. When I try a WaveLan card, the fan starts (and keeps) running. Dell Inspiron 4000.

I have a Compaq WL110, which I think is really just a rebadged ORiNOCO/Lucent wavelan card...

I think the wavewan cards are 5VDC. Have you checked the voltage of your other card (maybe 3.3). The increased power drain on your batteries would make you laptop run hotter...(?)

    Maybe?

Both cards claim to be 5 volt. That was the first thing I thought of.

    Thanks.
