http://www.nba.com/2009/allstar2009/01/23/fran.yao.012309/index.html They saying China is helping people like Rafer and Tmac get so many votes
It just shows that All Star voting isn't about the All Star game no more. It has become a popularity contest. And Yao deserves to be an All Star, media can hype all they want.
Eh... its a good argument, should we let the fans vote? I say yes. As long as the major players make it to the game (Kobe, Lebron, CPaul, Yao.. etc), its not going to matter. If Tmac had gotten voted in when he didn't deserve to make the game this season, Chris Paul would've still made the team, but a random guy like David West wouldn't make it. I'm sorry, but thats not the end of the world. We aren't undermining the all-star game by snubbing these players... and it has the added benefit of technically being what the fans want. The people that give a damn enough to vote, are probably going to watch the game (assuming the guy they voted for so much got in. Drives up ratings, etc. There is the obvious "Cpaul wouldn't start if Tmac got voted in" issue. But... who cares? For some reason people have it in their head that the starters have to be the best players. By definition, it isn't. Its the most popular players. Every so often you'll have a situation where Tmac gets voted in over CPaul or Shaq gets voted in over D. Howard a few years ago... but generally everyone gets the same amount of minutes anyway. They don't keep statistics for who started and who didn't.
There has been 5 chinese players in the NBA. Yao has been the only one to make an all star team. Except for Francis and Mcgrady, none of Yao's teammates have ever made an all star team. Both Francis and Mcgrady were all stars before being a teammate of Yao Ming. I think this China effect is over stated.
Back in the 80s, AC Green was voted in over Karl Malone. That year AC Green 12.9 ppg, 8.7 rpg Karl Malone 31 ppg, 11.1 rpg The all star game is all about the fans.
i don't like james, and he is not very popular in china. all we talk about is tmac, kobe, yaoming. that's all.
I am getting sick of people like you. Please stop using "we" as if you can represent a lot of people in china, there are many who have various opinions and individual thoughts which may be totally different from you or your small group. You only represent youself, not me, not the chinese......no offense
I'm gonna totes disagree with you in every way you considered yo'self as a union like 'WE' to represent the most of Chinese fans,in all due respect,I'm a T-Mac fans since he played for Orlando and at that moment,LeBron ain't no **** in China, but recently, with the growth of his skill and more entertaining to watch his game, his popularity in china now has outgrown T-Mac's and is close with Kobe's. If T-Mac got' back to his ol' self in no time,he'll prolly get his credits and his fans back in the track. BTW,I'm a Chinese,so just behave yo'self, don't try to represent others with your own opinion.no offense here.
good point! but we know this china effect is still hug! look at what the other rockets have got from china.amazing!
