We were down Yao, T-Mac, and Ron. He could of provided some minutes tonight and clogged that lane....

Is he still trying to get into game shape or is Rick only using him if we're on our way to a 50 point blowout?

Deke provides mental leadership. He probably does need to get into shape also.

I don't understand it either. Tonight he could've guarded Foster. Lately, teams have been killing the Rockets with layups when Yao goes out. Deke can change that and clean up on the boards too. Mutombo can give you a solid 15 mpg every game.

It wasn't like Foster was posting anyone up... he was getting free on screens where our big guys were overplaying to stop the three point shot.

Deke would have been nice, but lack of a tall guy in the middle wasn't why our defense was turrible.

You want to know why Mutombo didn't play tonight?

    Two words: Troy Murphy.

The Pacers wouldn't have exploited that match up all day long. Not to mention that inserting Dikembe would result in the Pacers going small and forcing either Landry or Scola to the bench (neither of them is guarding Dunleavy or Granger). Considering that Carl and Luis were carrying the offensive load for the late 3rd quarter and into the 4th, I don't think it would have made sense to take them out.

Mutombo: HAHA you got fouled out
Yao: What you laughing at, you won't get any playing time anyway

    So true.

He probably would have played tonight if they went in knowing Yao wouldn't play the second half. I was at the game and Mutumbo didn't warmup as much as the others and by the second half had sat the whole game and wouldn't have been warm anyways.

I'll be glad when we sign a real Backup Center instead of a damn cheerleader. He's on the bench use the man for short periods of time.

adelman frustrates me so much when the other team is getting layup after layup and not attempting to use dike for a short period of time. It happens game after game, and its getting really annoying

Let's just hope that Deke isn't playing 20 mpg for the rest of the season. :(

without having to get into shape,,,he could still contribute by playing D out there.

I hate Adelman. I suspect the real reason why he doesn't play Mutombo is because he's bitter that Morey signed him despite his objections. He's being a stubborn old fool just to show Morey who's really in charge of the team. We are losing ballgames because of this. I miss Van Gundy.

But wouldn't having Mutombo protecting the basket when Yao was out made guys like Granger think twice before driving to the basket? It would make them alter their shot or at the very least, they would've been met with a hard foul.

I'm not saying that Deke would have necessarily been the answer, especially since Indiana's big guys do a lot of damage from the outside, but it still might have been worth a shot.

Possibly, but I doubt it. Who knows, hindsight is 20-20, but Granger really wasn't the problem, it was the people picking and rolling that were the biggest issue.

If it was Granger going iso and breaking down shane every time down the court, then I would say sure. Instead it was set a screen for DG, and let the defense try to recover. All that would have happened is Deke would have stayed with a foot in the lane to stop Granger and let his man float and we would have given up the outside shot.

I need to watch the game again, not from behind the basket... which were great seats jsmee!! :) Then I can re-evaluate.

I was actually a bit surprised that Adelman put Chuck in during the second half. But he did help Shane on Granger cause they could switch off. Though Granger still hit a couple with Hayes in his grill.

overall, I am not sure if D was the problem... Pacers shot low %. Had lot of FT, but some were on end of game intentional fouls. Shot pretty well from the line, too, I think, and don't know if Mutombo would have defended FTs better than others.

I think Adelman is stubborn like he was with Francis. Mutombo came in for few minutes against the Lakers and score 4 points and then never see him again since. I think with Mutonmbo, there will not be many lay up score against us and less offensive rebounds for the other teams too. They probably think twice before driving in there or tried to swat the ball from him unless they want to meet Mutombo's elbows. I think the intimidation factor alone is worth having him in there. Even though he is not the young Mutombo like before but he can still rebound and block shot. I wish RA would give him a chance.

I would have played Mutombo the moment Yao Ming stepped out of the game. Simply put, he makes layups stop.

I don't understand why he's not playing either. Even when Yao was injured and the team were getting owned in the paint. With him and Dorsey out of the rotation, we still have no one to backup Yao.

And let's Murphy stand outside and shoot 3's non-stop.
