Obama is just following Bush policy. All questions to the President must be submitted in writing ahead of time to the Vice President so that an appropriately vague, bs, labyrinth like answer can be crafted at which time the reporter will be notified of the President's response by the White House press secretary.

Problem is it is over and over on every topic. I don't recall changing my personal stance on what is right and what is wrong. I personally don't really care about this non-issue, but I keep seeing Bush's name everywhere when I thought we were moving on.

This is how Rush made his name....he cherished the Clinton days because it gave him an everyday demon. Now it will be Obama's turn. And a sizeable market will eat it up, rooting against the president because he has a (D) by his name...if he had an (R) by his name they'd call it treason at worst or at least a lack of patriotism.

    Team politics blows.

Fair enough from you, seriously. I think you honestly want to move on, debate and hope America solves some problems.

I think you see Bush come up when certain posters come off as incredible hypocrites based on what they defended for 8 years but now criticize in microscopic version. It's like if you defended the mullet for eight years, and then you saw me with a little neck scruff and started a thread about my unkempt, unAmerican hair. The natural response is "but, but... the mullet was okay with you? WTF?"

I have a story to share. I also got a chance to ask Obama a tough question: "why don't you stop beating your wife?" But to my surprise, Obama stop beating his wife and start beating me.

Obama is so much worst than Bush. At least Bush would had blame it on Cheney. But now that Cheney is gone, Obama resorted to attack freedom of press.

you questioned bush's openess policy, when? anyway, when bigtexxx, basso and others make criticisms of obama that they wouldn't of bush, especially in an area where bush was particularly notorious, i'm calling them out. you can move on if you like, if i supported bush i would want to also

    what a silly thread.

Nothing wrong with a reporter asking a question -- and pressing it. It's what they do.

And nothing unusual about Obama declining to answer it at that time (given the nature of the visit) -- and letting him know when he would be prepared to answer it.

As an aside --- the man is a machine! He's got more done in three days (after partying all night before his first -- then I have in the last six months). I'm more and more impressed.

Dudes, dudes ... We're in power now, no need to even even acknowledge these petty protestations. The big issues are plenty to deal with. The "but, but, you said" crap doesn't matter. Any new boss is going to establish his own ground rules, if he stares down a dweeb, so what. Did he get his feewings hurt?

The President reversed the absolute worst public policy decisions of the previous administration on Day 2. He regained the world wide moral high ground for the nation!!! I don't care if he ran over this reporter with the Beast; he's kicking ass!

this thread is nothing but a feeble, flicked stone, glancing harmlessly off the aura of our new greatness.

Completely agree. I don't see the reporter or Obama doing anything wrong here.
He's also gotten two workouts in at the Presidential gym already.

I think this is a far more important point than whether a reporter was pushy or Obama was rude to that reporter. Reading the article Pgabriel posted I agree that he is being inconsistent but I think an absolutists policy on appointing lobbyists would've led to a lot of inexperienced and unqualified people being appointed. I'm not sure how much of a problem this will be for Obama but once again shows the problem when the rubber of campaign rhetoric actually has to meet the road of governance.

Think of Obama as Michael Jordan. He's just moved into the neighborhood and goes down to the corner deli for a snack and an opportunity to meet some of his new neighbors. He makes some small talk and tells them he'll host a block party later and pass out autographed photos as gifts. Then somebody asks him for an autograph. No big deal, but if he gives one guy an autograph, he knows he'll be trapped there for an extended period of time signing a bunch of autographs. So he politely reminds them of the party he's hosting and declines to provide an autograph.

Same dynamic. If he answered one he would have to answer several when all he wanted to do was introduce himself to the neighborhood.

By the way, it's hilarious that Obama's been answering all kinds of questions on the foreign policy, Constitutional matters, economic troubles and the like since the day after his election, but somehow the wingnuts think he's afraid of a question about a secondary level appointee.

Why not let them be? It is kind of like listening to Hannity, if you don't want to hear criticism about a Democrat that you wouldn't hear about a Republican just turn them off. Their criticism isn't even across parties, that is obvious, but why not just focus on wether Obama is right or wrong for not wanting to answer the guy. You don't see a problem with it, and most people probably don't.

Ok fine, I concede the point without doing a google search, that Bush never had a meet and greet.

This whole argument is really just ridiculous. I wouldn't consider saying hi to a bunch of journalists but not answering their questions a new era of openness. To that I would just say, great, he said hi.

On the other point, that FB was making, let's say we had access to all of this information? What are we going to do? Couldn't get an injunction to stop it. At what point does it become imprudent to have every issue before the public? What about issues where full information is not known? I'm not trying to defend the unethical decisions the Bush Administration made. I'm saying this policy on its face, is silly, should not be followed, and that the president should be an ethical person who does not need to outline every move he makes for the American public. That's a bad policy. Right out.

That original article is just pathetic.

President Obama was trying to be gracious and to introduce himself to the White House press corp. He announced his intention repeatedly and this is not a press conference.

All the reporters knew about it and they all treated it like a social call.

Then you have an assh*le reporter who decided to make a name for himself and broke courtesy and trying to create a "got you" scene.

Obama was as gracious as anyone can be. Regardless of how hard that reporter tried, there was no ugly confrontation.

If you don't believe me, just watch the video.

I agree and I don't think Obama did anything wrong but I also don't think the reporter did anything wrong. If there is someone to blame its Obama's staffer for not letting the reporters know ahead of time Obama was coming to say hi, this visit is supposed to be off the record and no questions will be taken.
