http://www.cbssports.com/nba/dunk-o-meter/yearly?&start_row=1 Yao Ming #29 Carl Landry #32 Good stuff, I never noticed Yao dunked it in so many times.
Thank you. I didn't realize Yao dunked so much either. An average of nearly once a game isn't too shabby. Landry would be higher if he played more minutes.
i remember in past seasons, yao was much higher. he used to get way more dunks with stevie. stevie would dribble penetrate, draw the defenders in the paint and just dish it off to yao. even now, i see yao right under the basket a lot, with rafer or brooks driving and trying to finish a contested layup. dont really see them dumping it off to yao much.
I think it would be much better if they also did a dunk %, dunks divided by shot attempts or makes, either one, that would kind of help players that don't play as much, like Von Wafer would be higher
I think what's even more sad is that Scola only has 5 blocks on the season while Brooks has 4. Scola plays 5.2 mpg more so Brooks is actually blocking more shots per minute. Scola simply plays small for his size. He's 6'9 w/out shoes so that makes him 6'10 by NBA standards. His listed height is from overseas. It doesn't include shoes. It's ridiculous for a 6'10 PF to be primarily shooting underhanded layups around the basket. Yao + Scola is fine offensively but those two are so slow and unathletic that it's not surprising we go through stretches where teams abuse our interior defense. Neither Yao or Scola are good at finishing strong (dunking) or defending their man one-on-one. I'm pretty sure they are the slowest, most unathletic frontcourt in the league.
Last year he was on the top 5 before getting hurt. And remember Yao is always surrounded by 2 or more players.
Not true. Big Z (7 dunks) and Ben Wallence (18 dunks) are a notch slower. Eric Dampier has only 29 dunks. Dirk Nowitzki maybe fast, but he has only 6 dunks So that's 2 "slower" front lines for you. And I haven't check Brad Miller and the co. yet, but they don't seem that swift either On the other hand, it's remarkable that even with much fewer dunks Yao still ranks 11th in shooting % (link ). Actually he has the best % among those who have 500+ shot attempts.
The stretches where team abuse our interior defense are when the nonathletic Yao is out and the ultra athletic Landry is in.
No **** man. I wear my Yao Ming jersey and Rockets hat around Portland with pride. Gotta love the dirty looks I get.
Are you talking Camby the empty stats Camby? Are you talking Camby the my interior defense sucks can't defend the post Camby. Are you talking Camby my team always sucks defensibly and I can't make the difference Camby. Are you talking Camby I'm not a PF only center and have no offensive game Camby? The one that make over 15 millions in 2 season? No. thanks.
We go through stretches like that when Scola is in as well. Scola gets blown by a number of times each game. He is smarter defensively positioning-wise and rotation-wise than Landry which is why I would give him a slight advantage. But you are right, Landry is also a bad defender. I still see Yao and Scola as the most unathletic starting frontcourt in the leauge and you see evidence of this lack of athleticism at both ends of the court. Athleticism isn't everything but it is a factor.
