Well it seems Dallas is the standard.

More that sending the rockets staff to Dallas to see the AA Arena, we need to pay attention to the composition of the team. According to Danny Ainge, they just have so many weapons. Many of the components that the Mavs have we already have. That would include penetrating guards and the use of the 3pts and spacing. I trust that we will commit to the wide open fast breaking game and defense which Dallas is improving at.

    In addition:

    1. Cato cannot be a full time player. If he was on Dallas his time would be limited. It is not that he will not score but he will never command sufficient attention. Having said that the Wink/Cato plays are not used by Dallas at all. They do not have the above the rim game that these two guys have almost perfected. However, the center has to have the ability to score and have range. Collier fits the mold more and the use of MoT and EG at the 5 will give us that capability from the 5 spot.
    2. Caron Butler would match Finley's role.
    3. Eg would match Dirk's role
    4. We had 5 players attempt more the 3 3pts per game. Dallas had six. I am not sure that the team should let both Langhi and Walt leave at the same time. That represents a big chunk of outside shooting to replace. The two draft picks cannot reasonably be expected to cover this gap. It should be noted that there are no rookies playing a critical role of the Mavericks team, this year.
    5. Rotation: Dallas had 10 guys playing more that 20 mins per game. Rockets had 8 players playing more that 20 mins per game.
    6. Guess what, they do not have a KT!!!!

    Man,

Dallas is a blast to watch.

The difference between Dallas and Houston is all above the shoulders.

The Mavericks have a team FULL of court savvy players, and the Rockets don't have a single one.

They run, they shoot, they share the ball, they have so many weapons......and they are unselfish.

The only thing the Mavs don't have is defense. They remind me of Sacremento 2 years ago before they started playing defense.

Man, Sac and Dallas are fun to watch....HEY ROCKETS, this is how basketball is meant to be played.

Umm..do you want to check how many 3s Langhi attempted these two years? Take a look. We will not miss his outside shot. 3 pointers are one of the last things I'm worried about from this club. We're already a team of jumpshooters. We need a physical inside presence, desperately. Walt and Langhi will NOT be missed by me if it means getting some more athletic players.

If Rudy doees need a hot hand from the outside, there's still Francis, Mobley, the return of Rice(maybe), a new SF from the draft, TMo, OT and Tierre. I expect some really improved stats/play by TMo. He's a solid 6th man.

10 years? Dierk and EG have different qualities and EG will never be Dierk but it sure better not take the kid 10 years to start playing his best.

I know DL was not a 3pt player. I remain confident that DL has the ability to drain mid range jumpers consistently. Next year could be the year DL puts it together. The list of players breaking out in their 3rd year is long. As you could see from both of tonight's games, when the heat is on you want folks to be able to drain jumpers after jumpers.

    Well said. :)

I love Dirk and EG, but they are both different types of players.

yeah nothing different about the talent level at all. we've got 3 7 footers that can drain 3's, a 7 footer than can dribble, post and rebound, TWO very talented point guards, an actual small forward, an actual bench, and limited numbers of injuries. wrong.

i won't deny dallas is awesome and is definitely fun to watch and plays somewhat smarter but to pretend the primary difference isn't talent, talent, talent is foolish. there's a reason you hear lots of people say dallas is the deepest team in the league and you never hear people say houston is.

I agree that we don't have the talent, but to say we don't have as much talent as the hornets or the magic is crazy. Its just the pace at which the rockets play that makes them so boring. The magic have 1 20pt scorer and after that i don't think they have a guy avg over 15pts per, but what they do is push the ball constantly and is not afraid to take the first good shot. Sometimes the first good shot you see is the best one you'll get all possession. I've been telling people all yr that this team is boring and Rudy is handcuffing the team. I just don't see how you can have Torres,Morris, and Griffin in the game and not pick up full court sometimes. Why wouldn't you want Cat,Francis,Morris,Griffin and some of these guys in transition? Just like Dallas force their will on teams by constantly running and pushing the ball, thats the way the Rockets has to be. Thats why I think Odom makes all the sense in the world to this team. He's very similar to Dirk in that he can pull the ball off the glass and start the transition down the floor. He's a scorer, passer, rebounder all in a 6'10 frame. Who cares about the Rocket mold of a 3 which is why we're sitting at home again. We need veritile ,multifaceted players instead of guys like Rice,Collier and some of these other stiffs on this tem.

Could the nba hope for a better 2nd round mathup than a Dallas-Kings playoff series?

    Hahah!
I love Rudy T for what he's done for the franchise, but couldn't the Rockets stash him somewhere, let the team develop into veteran and slowly let him come back? This guy isn't much of a rookie coach...

oooooo..wow. im so impressed with Najera.
maybe if they gave Langhi some damn playing time he could prove himself.
I cant freaking stand Dallas and bandwagoning fans.
i mean really...the houston rockets had so much fan fair in the mid 90s, now theyre bad and nothing and no one cares. Dallas has no fan fair in the mid 90s. now they are just blowing up because they are good.

    "oh whos your favorite team?"

    "the dallas mavericks"

"oh wow. theyre a good team, they win, that must say something about you as a person. youre a dallas mavericks fan. youre a winner."

i swear when the rockets start winning championships again, im going to ram it down everyones throat that i was fan the 2000, 2001, 2002 seasons.

i have an eddie johnson jersey hanging in my room. and im never going to take it down.

ill bet you a million dollars 3/4 of everyone who loves dallas right now doesnt have a jamal mashburn jersey in their room, or even watched one game in 95.

    i hate bandwagoning fans.
    :(

agreed 100%...for all the play Dallas gets as a sports Mecca, their fans are intense bandwagoners, just as much as Houston fans are. I was at Baylor in the mid-90's when the Rocks were winning titles and the Mavs were the dregs of the league...no one in the Dallas media market gave one flying flip about the Mavs...I don't recall ever seeing someone wearing Mavs apparel. In fact, my closest friend who claimed to be a Mavs fan was usually decked out in Suns gear! :)

I'm not sure that Dallas is the standard I want the Rocks to play to. I don't think they're a championship team without a stronger frontcourt presence. Whoever wins the title this year...that's the standard!

Well said MadMax. Personally I always be a rocket fan, but that doesn't mean i don't like watching other teams play. I like good sound basketball and when the Rockets were winning, thats what they played. They're a far cry from that now with or without the injuries. I just hope they don't stay in the dumps as long as Dallas did.

That would be the Lakers again and I don't see a 7 foot 320 lb unstoppable monster anywhere that we can get. I hope we get Ming or Cato finds those magic MJ shoes in the new Lil Bow Wow movie.
