Thats freaking insane!!! He didn't even use his legs. Ariza was clinging to the ball and Yao lifted him up off the ground using the ball lol. Imagine if he had dunked it with Ariza still hanging on the ball haha
lol i think this also suggests that Yaso prolly doesn't have problems with his strength...its probably more of a agility problem for him not getting the rebounds.
I can't believe how many people are impressed by that. I'm not saying Yao is weak but lifting Ariza there was more the result of height/leverage than sheer strength. A player with below average strength could do that if he has that much of a height advantage. Shawn Bradley could have done the same thing and he was a relative weakling.
It's also a matter of Yao having a strong lower body. When people talk about Yao being soft, it usually relates to how he uses his upper body.
He picked him up with the ball. We're not talking about yao piggybacking ariza or the heimlich maneuver.
I actually thought he used minimal leg strength on that play. He didn't bend his knees in the entire play, since he almost lost the ball. When he tried to jump up, Ariza and Dumbass held on to the ball, but Yao didn't let go, as a result Yao pulled them up with his arm strength.
It begins with McGrady's airing of grievances, then come the feats of strength, but then no one can go home until Adelman's shoulders are pinned.
Yao is strong but I tend to agree that this wasn't some awesome display of strength. Both Yao and Ariza are hanging onto the ball pretty tightly and while Yao doesn't bend his knees but he is straightening his back and using added leverage with his height. While he lifts Ariza off the ground its not like he takes him way off the ground but pretty much the difference in height between them. In Judo I've been able to pick up people like that heavier than me by locking arms with them and lifting in a similar manner.
I am not as surprised. He is 310 pounds and you know he works hard in the gym, and supposedly has world class trainers, nutritionist etc. It is still impressive, now if we would just me more aggressive all the time that would be even better.
If you're not impressed by this, you're crazy...for example, if you're a 6ft 180lb guy, try lifting up a ball w/ someone weighing 135lbs hanging onto it into the air without time to gather yourself. The best thing about this is Trevor's kid-like laugh....I think he was somewhat in shock....as if he just went on a fun ride.
Can't argue against you. It is true. I saw Shaq dunked the ball while two rockets were all over him. You won't see that kind of strength for a long time.
