Simply not acceptable. If Rockets are not planning anything, maybe fans should do so. Day after day. Tremendous merit Yao keep playing like this with that refereeing. So so so scandalous
To be fair, there were a lot of terrible calls on both sides; Andersen trip on Yao, Yao's travel; Billups was fouled in the back on a couple of shots, that last foul was sketchy but I won't complain. Just fire Palmer already.
Watching this game makes me think if that's a real sports, or just a show directed by these refs..... How can they let the refs make so many faults, and anyone of them can easily change the game.
That's true, the calls did go both ways. It was just a horrible game overall on the part of the refs, especially Palmer.
although some calls were easy misses, i think people simply (including myself) don't understand the difficulty of guarding a guy who so much bigger than everyone else. yao doesn't get a lot of calls, but it isn't close to what shaq went through.
I think by Yao arguing and getting mad at the Refs helped him get some calls at the end, that were fouls. Refs are easily punked
I just don't understand how they mess up some of the most obvious calls. That Andersen flop had to be the most egregious play of the day in terms of missing a call, but it's not even like it was a bang/bang play. The guy flops, is on the ground, and then Yao goes over him to take the shot, and his hindered by Andersen's carcass on the floor. I just don't understand how you don't blow the whistle there. What POSSIBLE justification is there??? It just made absolutely no sense to me. If Yao had STEPPED on him, he would have gotten the offensive foul probably, then, right? I just don't get it.
Forgot about that horrible non call. They called it against scola too in one of the games. The only reason why yao missed that gimmee was cause he didnt want to break his ankle on the birdman's torso.
I would support the idea of Les bringing someone in and paying him to compile together a video of all of Yao's touches throughout the season (maybe previous seasons) and how often he is fouled but doesn't get the call. They could send it in to Stern or whoever deals with that sort of thing and they could investigate it.
Yeah I saw the fouls the Rockets were starting to pull on every play towards the end. We were just running up against Billups and pushing him with our bodies every time he pulled up for a jumper. But hey, they didn't call it, and our increased aggressiveness was in response to the bad officiating on our offensive end as well as Denver's increased physicality on Yao, no doubt provocated by George "sweep the leg!" Karl. At least he was George "sweep the leg!" Karl in Seattle; ever since '97 Sloan has hijacked that nickname from him. We were right to foul Denver continually at the end of the game; it was effective, it was provoked, and the referees were in no condition whatsoever to control the flow of that game.
i've watched shaq's game since his rookie year and i can't agree with what you said; especially consider how much shaq has gotten away from the way he mows his defenders over. it's all about consistency on both ends, my friend. and i don't like the current sissy hand-check rules on the perimeter that they changed a few years back. to me it is also a consistency issue on a bit bigger scale.
Yes it is, it is worse than what Shaq went through, because Shaq got away with TONS of offensive fouls.....to even things out. Yao doesn't ....Yao is the worst officiated player in NBA history. DD
look what George Karl said about Yao "We had great effort," Karl said. "My big guys battled Yao and got beat up a lot. He's a tough cat, gets away with a lot of holding, grabbing and dislodging. There are losses that are good losses. Tonight was a good loss. We did a lot of things well." http://espn.go.com/nba/recap?gameId=290119010 more like the opponents hold and grab yao . Can't believe he would accuse yao of this when his own players were fouling the shyt out of him.
Notice how after that non-call that turned into traveling in the 4th, Yao basically just took the team on his back and won it. He had like 10 points after that. I REALLY think they need to institute an instant replay rule. The rules say contact on the arm is a foul. You SHOULD be able to see if he hits the arm or not clearly on a replay. Allow 1-2 challenges a game. Of course, this rule wouldn't have prevented that bad call, but in the future refs might err on the side of calling the foul so that it CAN be challenged and reversed if they happen to be wrong. And contract vs blocking shot calls like that are so easy to correct. If the player knows he blocked the shot, he'll tell the coach to challenge the call instantly if it was wrong. No reason not to IMO.
What Karl had to say after the game: ""We had great effort," Karl said. "My big guys battled Yao and got beat up a lot. He's a tough cat, gets away with a lot of holding, grabbing and dislodging. There are losses that are good losses. Tonight was a good loss. We did a lot of things well." WTF????
