I know Im new here. But i used to be mad as hell for them passing up on lewis until this year. Dont you guys relize that the rockets drafted griffin ONLY because they thought he would be a dominate three? If we would have had lewis,we would have not traded up for griffin. SO it begs the question, who do you think is better for the 3/4,lewis or griffin, facter in griffin is 2 years younger and less expensive? Obviously griffin is better, even the sonic fans would trade lewis for griffin(they told me). The question really is not that the rockets screwed up the 98 draft, but shouldnt they have not signed mo taylor, and saved their money for the future to sign lewis? YES!!! In conclusion, the rockets arent necesarily bad at drafting, but bad at signing players contracts to to much money.
They didn't draft Griffin to be a 3. If they drafted him to be a 3, they would not have expressed supposed interest in Lamar Odom.
I agree- Rudy prudently avoided a high school graduate in '98- Unknown quantity. For us to send out these regrets now about Lewis is pointless. If we had drafted Lewis, and had that deft sharpshooter-non defender Maloney where would we be?????
I think this new guy is a concerned Sonic's fan who is worried we are going to find a way to get Lewis next year an leave them with nothing in return. If that does happen, alls I've gots to say is
Look, Rudy was against drafting young players, but when you have 3 mid to low level picks in the first round, you are taking a flyer anyway, why not take one on a talented SF from Houston? Rudy screwed up...plain and simple...he messed up. DaDakota
I agree that Lewis probably should have been taken in that draft. However, not taking him was a perfectly defensible move. There simply wasn't time or roster space for 3 rookies, one of them a high school kid. That "flyer" in the first round was guaranteed money for three years. As-is, to a certain extent, the club was relieved when they only ended up having to deal with two newcomers.
I have heard it said that Turkcan had one of the best workouts anyone ever had with the Rockets. If this is true, it may be a major factor in passing on Rashard. Dickerson became part of the Francis deal and Drew was a better fit for Dream and Barkley. Hindsight is 20/20. I've seen worse draft moves. There would be an element of irony if Rashard became a Rocket via S&T and the Chicago Drew obligation was transferred to the Sonics as part of the deal.
Won't happen quit dreaming Lewis is not coming to Houston. Lewis will be the franchise player when Payton leaves.
I'm glad rudy didn't draft lewis. He wouldn't be the player he is today. With the sonics he is getting better schooling about the game of basketball. Hopefully next year Rudy will be gone. It's time for the Rockets to head in a new direction.
