Yeah Marvel vs Capcom 2 is the tag team one.

Next would be Street Fighter 3. I love the addition of the parry system. lol This video never gets old.

Beyond Good & Evil was a huge disappointment.

Well...I hoped both sold MUCH better, especially given their quality and the sales of other games. So in a way, I agree with you. But realistically, I don't think the sales numbers for either game are too bad, especially if they continue to sell well over the upcoming months. I doubt they'll have any big impact on plans for sequels or whatever. We could nitpick about games like these, but I was thinking more along the lines of games that were WAY off from expectations (see my Xenosaga example or even Shadow Hearts). Sales that basically killed any possibility of a sequel or something like that.

1M+ in a couple of months is generally not too bad, especially for those two games under these conditions. Might even be the highest sales for games of their type, at least on the 360/PS3 (sales for non-shooters aren't that great, outside of a few exceptions). I think SH2 might have been the best selling SH game, and it was around 1M according to Wiki.

you know why they made the parry system right?

cause the scrubs don't know how to pull a reverse or get out of corner traps.

i believe sf4 has no parry system. the constant tapping is not a fluid motion, its like mortal kombat crap!

i don't deny that it takes skill to parry every single hit, but it makes the game less fluid.

A lot of the games released in 93 were disappointments because the SNES was beginning to take over.

Are you kidding? That game had almost no expectations, didn't sell well at all, and nearly nobody knows about it. Despite all that, it is actually a very solid and enjoyable game with fun gameplay, good music and an excellent story. I don't see how anyone could dislike it.

That scene with Yuna and Tidus "laughing" is one of the most awkward, unwatchable moments in video game history.

They even flash back to it during a dramatic moment later on in an attempt to stir up emotion.

The writers were either complete boobs or too much was lost in the Japanese-to-English translation.

He probably meant sales compared to quality.

I usually weigh expectations higher than the actual quality in terms of whether it was a material disappointment. A sales disappointment is a different matter, though.

I meant quality. I thought it got what it deserved sales wise.

I had that game on my radar for a log time before it came out (I played a lot of Rayman by Michael Ancel previously), bought it on release day, had huge expectations, and thought it underperformed. I didn't hate it, but it certainly did not meet expectations. It was one of the biggest disappointments for me on the PS2.

The gameplay was good, but not great. Also, I hate when you collect 10,000 widgets and get no benefit out of it. The story was a huge disappointment. I expected a lot more nuance and fleshed out plot, but it kind of played out lamely. It was just too short and had huge gaping plot holes. Maybe that's unrealistic expectations, but that's how they marketed this game for months before it came out. One of the best stories in a video game ever? Not even close.

All that being said, I will probably pick up BG&E2, but my expectations will be a lot lower.

    Age of Conan

This is a game that was hugely hyped to 'dethrone' World of Warcraft and sold incredibly well at launch. I've always been a Conan fan and a casual online player so I got roped into the hype and bought the collector's edition for $100, bought magazines with bonus in-game items, and even scammed the gamestop bonus item.

The game ended up being mediocre and I dropped it after six weeks.

Daikatana is the poster boy for failed expectations. It's like the "Gigli" of video games.

I'm guessing you can add almost any "WoW Killer" game onto that pile.

    Warhammer.. LOTR.. etc

I can't believe it took 3 pages to mention Daikatana.

Oh crap. Looks like I have to get in on this...

My favorite fighting game ever is Guilty Gear X2. I played Testament.
    After that?
    CVSNK2, GGXX^C, SF3, MVC2, and Samurai Showdown 2.

    Potemkin FTW, biatch! :D

I love Ky and Chipp as well... though Chipp is more "fun to play" than actually good.

Aaah, and it was mentioned twice even. I'm not "in" enough to know games simply by their abbreviations anymore :)

I'll give the 1st one another shot then, one day. Even though new systems have been out, still havent given up on my unfinished Xbox1 games yet. Even a friend that stayed over a weekend who isnt into RPGs played KOTOR out of boredom and said I should continue. I'm just more into the Jedi Outcast type gameplay I guess...Or I should just admit I'm the typical Nintendo Wii target demographic

(and off topic - the browser tab I opened this on does have it listed "Wasted Pot..." on top)
