I think Francis probably knew Memphis only traded for him to get their second round pick back, but it wouldn't have been good PR to say this in public. So he said what was expected and then kept quiet.

Now he's free to sign with any team that wants him. Hmm, there must be some team that's in need of point guard help. (New Jersey?)

Don't be surprised if we move Luther Head and another player (Dorsey) for a single player and bring back Francis on a minimum contract.

There is no basketball reason to sign Francis again. He is done as an NBA caliber basketball player due to age and injuries. It is too bad, I enjoyed watching him play when he was in Houston the first time.

or...this is all entirely consistent, and he won't play another meaningful minute in the NBA.

    I second that!!!

Prior to the start of this season, I had been saying all along that I wasn't counting on any contributions from Steve Francis this season with the Rockets. Now, I'm not counting on him to contribute to any other team in the league for the rest of this season. A GM to sign him would have to be downright crazy IMHO. I say that he's done, period.

You are so right. The rockets signed him to a stupidly large contract he was never worth, but then they lucked out and traded him and and a bunch of dead weight like Cato and his stupidly large contract, then later the blazers pay him the balance of that stupidly large contract he was never worth, after his act wore thin in Orlando and New York, then he fooled the rockets into giving him 6 more million for 10 games 55 points 5.5points per game over 2 years.

    Mr. Steveieofrenchfrycrossoverdribbleoffyourfootskipupcourtturnitoverslamitdownandoneplaygrounddribbleouttheshotclockdesperation3pointerihaveaheadachefranchise never fooled anybody.

    Well... He never fooled me.

Judging from the poll 33% are still fooled or delusional.

fyi, i was a Rookie Season Ticket holder dinner before the game last night which had a Q & A with Morey, some idiot actually asked "Where's Steve Francis?" in which I have to rant, if you have Season Tickets, you should freaking know who's on the damn team....

anyways, it was funny that Morey was surprised that someone else mentioned buyout and he even said, "so it's public already?" to make it sound like that was the plan all along when they traded him, so in essence, I wouldn't be surprised if he's back here after the 30 days after the trade, which is like 6 days.

LOL at people thinking the rockets will resign francis, you guys are really in denial..I don't believe steve is done in the league i think he still has some game in him, he should take the rest of the year off and work on his game, if he does that im confident he will make the rotation on some team it just wont be the rockets

Francis barely played last year. How exactly did he injure his quadriceps?

Ha, he rejected the Grizz twice.

    Just like it is now.

And you were one of the guys back then that you 'poke fun at' now. :p

    Francis should retire.

Houston was his last open door, but he blew it. If he moved around anymore, it'll only damage his name.

I feel bad for the guy. He was the main show in town for a while (except for Bagwell and Biggio). I can reduce the moment I knew he didn't fit in to one play. Was it the 03 playoffs against the Lakers. Steve is getting ready to drive on Kobe... and 4 all 4 other Lakers keyed in on him. Kobe just laughed at him. It was sad. Of course a turnover endued soon after.

But still, for a while, we had the Dunk competition to look forward to.. but that and starting for the West was it. I'm grateful for the excitement he generated for the team while we were basically rebuilding.

I hope he doesn't end up like Marbury. That would be really sad. Maybe his injury is main thing, maybe his head was never in the game, I dunno.

Honestly, as huge Francis fan, I'd be very surprised to see him back. Unless they're trying to move Head for a draft pick or something. Still though, where would he fit? Brooks, Wafer and Barry seem to be getting all the backup guard minutes. I doubt the Rockets would sign him to sit on the bench again and be more of an insurance.

Its funny. That is the same play I think of why I loved the guy.
While TMac can say ,. . . its on him.
    In that series
    against 4 hall of Famers
    IT WAS ON STEVIE!

The expectations of a 2nd Year Yao was low

Stevie sat on a Island. .. alone . . . having the responsibility to make
    something happen . . .
    He tried . .. . he failed.
It happens. It was his 1st Playoffs. I knew he would learn from it
    But
    was not given the opportunity.

    Pippen . . .a 6 time champion [and all world *ssh*le]
. . .dribbled the ball off his foot . . in the previous last playoff game/series
and yes. . . against the same younger kobe.

    . . it happens

Then again . . i guess we should hold SF3 in his 1st playoff series
to a higher standard that Snottie

    It happens. . . .

I prefer someone Try and Fail
that park at the 3 point line and not
If my jump shot is falling. . . i can go from 30 . . WOOO GOOD TIMES!
If my jump shot is off .. . aaw shucks . . .next time. . Next time!
