Agreed. 100% I know Deron Williams was injured for a few weeks to start the season, but Utah has had lots of injury problems and they're still winning games. I'd put him at #6.
^ I'm not so sure if I would put Wade up that high considering his team is on pace to barely win 45 games
hes the leader and soul of that team. I do take into consideration the standings of the team but Wade has been absolutely terrific this year.. and consider the fact that they sucked hardcore last year and hes running a team which has 2 starting rookies
Wade is the lone engine pulling the cars sometimes. They have a rookie head coach on top of that. But certainly MVP voters will penalize the fact his team is worse than the other MVP contenders. I agree with LeBron at #1 followed by Kobe. The order of the next 3 can be debated.
So you don't think Kobe's closing the gap? Lebron is ahead for sure but he's not the undisputed MVP so far. Perhaps the MLK matchup between Kobe and Lebron can be a statement game.
Unless Cleveland falls off I don't see Lebron not getting it. The hype for him right now is crazy and he's living up to it. Shooting over 50 % is amazing for a guard in this era. I don't know if he can keep it up for the whole season but it's impressive. I was probably wrong in what I said earlier because it will be between Bron and Kobe. If Orlando wins the East I could see Dwight getting it but I don't think Orlando will win the East.
oh my God, i can't believe T-Mac is not on this team. I'm sure he was on the first MVP list and then decided to skip the next one because he does not do back to backs
This isn't Kobe's year. Some people think he got MVP last year over Chris Paul just because he hadn't won it before. That, alone, will hurt his cause this time around. Plus, LeBron has been so awesome it isn't close. Kobe will have to raise it up to another level from what it is now the entire 2nd half of the season to catch up or LeBron will have to falter quite badly. I don't see either one happening. Another scenario could be the Cavs record might slip because of injuries and the Lakers end up with a significantly better record at the end of the season.
1) Lebron is a forward, not a guard 2) 50% wouldn't be too hard considering he shot 48.4% last year, and it would be easy if he didn't want to shoot over 4 3's a game. 3) Agree that he has been insane, and is going to win unless his team tanks.
Kobe's been carrying the team for the past 2 weeks with injuries to their regulars like Odom, Farmar and Vujacic and he has definitely stepped up. Shouldn't team record be a strong factor in regards to the MVP voting? ??? First off, this is the Jazz were talking about. That's strike one. Second, though you mentioned the injuries, Deron has missed 1/3 of the Jazz games this year. That's a lot. When he has been playing, it's still been solid, but nothing amazing. 43% shooting, 30% from three. He had a much better season last year, and at the end of they day was 12th in voting. I agree with the top 5 listed. Personally, I'd put Dwight 5th, though. He's awesome, but I think the other 4 are more instrumental to the success of their teams. Timmy could slip into the top 5. Everytime you think he should go downhill, he doesn't. I think Brandon Roy probably deserves some thought as well. Chauncey's shooting has been horrendous, but if the Nuggets have the 3rd best record in the West at the end of the year (like they do now), with Carmelo being out some, he might get some votes.
1. Yeah you're right, but since the ball is in his hands so much at times I still consider him a SG/SF. 2.50% may not be hard for him but it's impressive for any superstar that isn't a PF or C.
Ha! Ok, my bad... I wasn't looking at the stats, really just noticing they're not playing so badly considering all of their injuries. Seeing how Williams is the catalyst on the team, I believe he has the most to do with keeping the ship afloat. What do I know... I've only seen the Jazz play like twice this year. Am I out, or do I still have one strike left???? I'd love to keep playing.
The phrase "carrying the team" is not applicable to one's adjustment to the loss of bench role players.
