does he remind any1 of caron butler? he plays hard and has that nasty edge to him and like butler at one point was a no name guy his game reminds me a lot of caron butler which means rox need to lock him up soon for cheap before the kid gets a big contract somewhere else
I really doubt Von expects to be a starter in this league after trying to be backup for 4-5 teams now. Yes he's really earning playing time but still has to prove more. If the Rockets have learned anything from the past it's not to get caught up on half-season performances. I really hope we can sign this kid to a 2-3 year contract. He's fairly young and 2-3 years will really gauge what he can do. Half the MLE yes.. Anything over that is really over doing it. Remember we are going to be able to sign a HIGH profile agent in 2010. We can't blow the money.
Caron Butler came out of Uconn and he was a pretty highly regarded player. I'm pretty certain he was a lottery pick as well. His game is pretty smooth and refined as well. Wafer is nice and has surpassed everyones expectations by far but lets not go overboard here at least not yet.
If you're talking about the same Caron Butler who blew up in the tournament and was the #5 pick in the draft, then no, he was not a no name guy.
He reminds me of a poor mans Trevor Ariza. He can shoot the 3, go in for the hard dunk, and doesn't have a mid range game. Well then again, that's like a lot of athletic players...
Poor man's? Ariza is taller, longer, and a better defender, but Wafer is much more skilled. What sets elite wings apart from the rest is the ability to create their own shot off the dribble. Ariza has none of that. Wafer has a little bit, but it's mainly off the pump fake and drive. You won't see them running ISO's for him to take his man off the dribble any time soon. Caron Butler he is not - not even close. Still, he's a real breath of fresh air for a team that's used to wings like David Wesley and Shane Battier who are basically standing in cement after the defense closes out on the 3.
money will almost certainly be the single most important factor for wafer coming offseason. landry had no choice after we matched charlotte. think about it. you are a baller in the nba and have been bumped off several teams. how many years left for you to make the money that can secure the rest of your life?
I said it in another Wafer thread, but he would not be doing as well without Yao Ming. Von is not a guy who is going to beat people with his dribble, but he is great at taking advantage of the creases, lanes and holes that the double teams on Yao create. In essence he is tailor made for a Yao centric team. FINALLY we have a wing that is perfect for it. DD
The J.R. Smith comparisons made earlier in this thread are probably the most spot-on I've read so far. Great shooters, great athletes, limited ballhandling, but great slashers.
