after reading this whole thread, the ad at the bottom was for a 3D screen saver of a walking elephant......i dunno, made me laugh.
don't you know this is america? she shouldn't have to take responsibility for herself. she should sue.
I heard a caller on Roula and Ryan this morning who was 5 foot, 200 lbs. I don't know what the subject was, but the lady said she was in line at a BBQ restaurant and the customer behind her asked, "you're going to eat all that?" If that wasn't humiliation enough, the employee who takes the order said, "yeah you should eat less." What cracked me up was not so much the story but Roula saying 200 lbs was not fat if you carried it well on your frame. For a female? OOOOhhhh kay. LMAO.
I would think that 200 lbs. would be okay if she was 6' 10. But the chick on the Fox news brief was only 5' and 275 lbs. That chick's gotta be shaped like a bowling ball (and just about as sharp).
Back in the old days when open MRI facilities were less common than they are now, we would ship people to Sea World if they were too big for the machine. Also, we have bedside pulleys for lifting large patients
Lose weight? Damn Americans, expect everything/everyone to bow to their needs. (I'm american too, just sayin.)

i was thinking more about this episode, which i can't find a youtube clip of the scene: # 111. Season 5, Ep 18: My New Suit 9.18 Reviews J.D.'s brother Dan returns for a surprise visit and Elliot learns that J.D. has been telling Dan that she still likes him. Carla and Turk freak out when they begin to discuss baby names. Dr. Kelso assigns Dr. Cox to assist Ted with malpractice claim paperwork after Dr. Cox insults Dr. Kelso's son. Meanwhile, a patient with weight-related problems needs an MRI, but he's too big for the machine. Aired: 4/11/2006 they actually suggest the patient go to the zoo for the mri, even at the risk of hurting his feelings. hoping that will send him a message that he needs to lose weight or die.
What's the alternative for the hospital? Just have her not get an MRI and let her suffer??? Or buy a 5 or 6 figure expensive machine to cater to one patient a year?
Jeez the hate in this thread is unsurprising....after all the target is a "fat woman" which seems to be the Clutchfans version of a contagious leper who is also a Jazz fan. Sure she is too fat, and baring a severe thyroid problem part of that is self inflicted. The fact is I don't know what her metabolism is like..but even assuming she eats a large pizza every night and washes it down with a 2 liter coke she is deserving of medical care. Apparently Animal MRI's are NOT used to care for humans in that area...so it can't have been anything but one of the kind of flip comments we see on this thread. Nobody is calling for hospitals to not treat people with lung cancer who smoked, or not to treat drug overdose patients at all. This board (besides being full of Whataburger threads) constantly mentions people who go out to have a few beers...I am not naive enough to think they are all taxiing home. The fact is people don't always make the healthiest choices, and some of those choices have medical consequences. But we all deserve to be treated like human beings. I think some of you are letting your personal distaste for looking at the obese color your views on their humanity. PS: As far as the person who is angry that he sometimes has trouble finding pants small enough for him, I betcha any fat person on the planet would trade with you on that regard. I haven't been able to shop in a regular department store and buy ANYTHING but cologne in 15 years...and I am 6'0 300.
Not all hospitals or doctor's offices are set-up to service every type of patient. This hospital was perfectly suitable for your average and probably more than average patient, but it wasn't for her. I think the zoo recommendation was out of line when they could have found her an appropriate MRI machine somewhere else instead. As far as they SHOULD have had a machine that fit her, I disagree.
