It's not Yao or Brooks' fault that Yao shot for a 2. It was Ricks. That was the play Adleman planned during the timeout. Why would brooks pass immediatly to Yao? And I don't think Yao would take that shot without being told to. Also, our inbound play was pitiful in the fourth. And I think had that foul and tech not been called on Yao we would have won easily. Yao was on fire.
Brooks passed to Yao because there was no way he'd get a shot up with Ariza on him. He tried getting his biggest target the ball so he could get it back and hit the 3. Once Yao lost it, all we needed was a shot. Either that, or Adelman was looking for the foul. Whole situation would've been avoided if someone made their free throws.
Brooks penetrated, obviously hoping to find an open 3-point shooter. He couldn't find one, and he passed it to Yao so he could race back to the 3-point line and get another look. But it looked to me that Yao panicked, felt he just needed to get a shot up before the time expired to at least cut it to 1, and he let it fly. The Rockets probably would have been better off just giving it to Wafer, give him a pick, and hope he can drain it off the one or two dribbles. At least that way they can get off a 3-pointer.
Regardless that was a ****ty play call and ****ty inbound. We should have found a way to get the ball to Wafer - the lakers found a way to get the ball to Kobe the whole night
I don't think it's Rick's fault. We just fell short to Lakers in the final seconds with our two stars sidelined. They're without Luke Who,Sasha Machine? How the hell could this 2 guys be compared to our Ron Ron and hypothetical Healthy T-Mac? We're just undermanned and Yao didn't hear Aaron screaming in the corner, wanting the ball to shoot the winner.
i would put this more on rafer also. he had a chance to tie the game with 2 freebies and he missed them both. yao and brooks had a much more difficult situation. they're dealing with the clock running down, defenders and finding an open man. all rafer had to do was concentrate, go to his happy place... and shoot the ball.
Thank you! It came down to not finishing defensive possesions with a rebound. That and 24fts to our 6 pretty much sums it up.
I can't see anything wrong with this fantastic game. You guys, we have two big names sitting on the bench and still played a close game against arguably the best team in the league. I'm personally satisfied with everyone of this team tonight, especially Wafer, though.
as much positive as can be taken out of it, no matter who was favored to win before the game, no matter who was playing in it, rockets did control most of the game and really should have won. championship aspirations with the current team is how we gotta look at it. whoever joins on after this is bonus
DEFINITELY is NOT YAO's fault. Did you see the time left on the clock? If he kicked it back out to an 3-shooter, we wouldn't have gotten ANY shot up.. or at least it would've been close. If anything, yao was smart for tryign for a 2 and then a quick foul after. Mostly was Rick's fault for a bad drawn play. Could've also been the team's fault for lack of execution. I forgot if we had any timeouts left but if it we did, then it would be the inbounder's fault for not recognizing a busted play and calling a timeout.
look at the replay, yao shot the ball with 3 seconds left.......there was plenty of time to pass it to brooks, who basically wide open with his hands up.....yao probably had time to take 2 dribble back to the 3pt line and launch one himself.........sorry, this one's on yao
the only reason the rockets were even in it, is cause rafer hit a floater with 59 seconds left to cut it to 2, then off a messed up play he found shane battier for 3..........yes he missed hte ft's, but carl landry had a rebound and easy follow dunk that he screwed up by knocking the ball out of bounds for no reason.
glad you pointed it out. rafer, as bad as he looked tonight (bad shooting + the 2 missed ft's), deserves a little break imo. but most here just want to do what's fashionable - bash him to no end, without looking at other facts.
