    Okay, one more take.

Yao knows who David Aldridge is. I'm pretty sure Aldridge has interviewed Yao at least once, probably several times in the past.

Yao asks who wrote the article on NBA.com. Raheel answer Aldridge. Yao realizes this is somebody he knows. His response then, after a noticeable pause is, "He called me?"

As in, Yao's wondering, did I talk to this guy and did I tell him anything?

You are reading way too much into it. I think Yao did pretty well.

    - He said you two don't talk
-Uh? we just talked today (in your lying face)

    - He said you wanted Tracy out
    - Who's that guy? (totally diminish the value of that guy's opinion)

    - Explain who he is
    - He called me? (since he said I said something, where is his source?)

It's the same pattern. What do you want him to say? I swear I didn't say that? Will you believe then?

    That's just total Bullcrap.

If Yao didn't say this, he will directly deny it. However he dodged the questions with standard technique "answer question by asking question".
    Geeze, now I believe it!

How about "No, I don't want Tracy out of Houston. We need him for the playoffs to be successful"?

How about "No, Tracy and I are very good friends"?

How hard is it to say either of those things? Why didn't Yao say either of them?

That's the only thing he can do. Creating additional drama is not good for the team... or to Morey's ability to trade Tracy if that's what Yao wanted.

I think the only guy who publicly called for a teammate to be traded was Kobe on the cellphone cam in the parking lot.

Because there is a problem between them and Yao is too classy to talk about it in the press.

Bingo. If you've got something to hide you buy time by answering a question with another question.

    DRAMA

That what people with no live wants.

Drama to have something to talk about. That's why reality show are so popular even when all the drama is made up, ppl still believe it.

You believe what you want to believe. That why Scientology exist.

Honestly, if I were Yao and a reporter surprised me with that kind of question, I would probably answer the same way, perhaps even adding a tinge of sarcasm. When you feel that someone is trying to slander you (or your team), a smart person will typically counter from a superior point or deflect rather than try to engage head on. The last option on my mind would be to engage in direct answer and end up in a "he said, she said" type of situation.

It's entirely possible (and perhaps even likely) that Yao is covering up some stuff, but I don't think his refusing to address the question directly is really significant either.

Well, doesn't Yao always answer questions like that - trying to be funny with a little jab and sometimes a question in return? When was the last time he answered interview questions with straight yes and no?

I think the whole dodging the question thing is suspicious. Add to it that this is the second time we've heard about the two not liking each-other...

I remember the whole LA thing with Shaq and Kobe...and I remember how the two always dodged questions...how more 'Sources' came out saying the two did not like each other, how the two acted like they liked each other...and the eventual fall out.

I'm not saying the same thing is going to happen...but it's odd how he dodged the question IMO and makes it more suspicious that this is the 2nd time in a what... a week or so we've heard about this.

No, he answers questions with questions--classic time buying technique. He also refuses to answer in specifics, deflecting the question into generalities. Is he on good terms with McGrady? They have a good locker room, everybody's close. No mention specifically of McGrady in his answer.

These are classic signs that he's not being completely truthful, that he's being evasive. Useful pointers if you're ever picked up by the cops or for your next job interview, btw.

    "We just talked today."
Everybody who can speak English know what "you don't talk" ACTUALLY means but Yao very cleverly to take it LITERATELY. Nobody think this is fishy??

Another great point. Yao and T-Mac may have literally talked that day, but that answer avoids the real heart of the question--are they still on friendly terms?

Again, why be evasive unless there's something you want to hide?

Spot on. I don't think there's much point into analyzing every single word from this interview (although much appreciated Raheel).

Yao typically makes jokes when replying to reporters. And even if this were all true, he wouldn't be stupid enough to let this spill into the media. Do you people really think Yao would say 'oh we don't talk anymore and no one gets along, everything is awful.'
