You moron, you think I do this for fun?! This ain't some KIDDIE SANDBOX I'm playin' with! THIS IS BIZNUZ!!! VMWARE IZ BIZNUZ! VirtualBox is for grannies to check the email on!
Nah, I should have keys within the next couple of days for all the software that is TechNet Plus. I really don't want to set up another box to run this, so hopefully it'll run fine in a VMWare session.
If you're debating between buying a Windows computer now or waiting for Windows 7's release, there maybe some good news. Reports are coming out that if you purchase a new Vista machine after July 1, you will be eligible to receive a free copy of Windows 7 upon its release. This isn't official yet, but it's better than waiting another year or so for the final release (despite reviews of a solid beta release, there's no guarantee the final version of Windows 7 will be released this year; IE8 is far from gold quality).
Microsoft has done this in the past with their other OS's and MS Office. I think it's part of their "technology guarantee" program so you don't buy something one day and 2 weeks later a newer version comes out you didn't know was coming out.
Just hopped on my laptop and found my 4th registry error in 2 months. Time to wipe it clean and reinstall windows again. Man, being a real computer user is HARD.
Looking forward to it, I'm still running xp pro on my main machine. I was looking to purchase vista ultimate until I heard about Windows 7 a while back.
Just switch to Ubuntu 8.10 it's really nice, took me a while to finally decide on leaving XP behind but it's worth it. No need to worry about security updates and other virus threats, lots of free software to do exactly what I used to do in WinXP, Wine for a few programs (GrabIt is really nice) and VirtualBox to be able to still develop for Windows. Ubuntu with compiz is also nice to look at There's also an article on Ubuntu in the International Herald Tribune of Yesterday which was interesting. http://www.ubuntu.com/ for anyone who is interested
That is more about how ticked I am that I have to wipe my frickin laptop clean again because of windows...
I have a WD Passport hooked up to time machine on my imac. My PC I abandoned backing up after I got the Mac... use it for sparse gaming now... when it isnt giving me tons of problems, that is.
seriously? What do you do on there? I'm no fanboy.. but I only had blue screens with Win 98 and then sometimes with Win2k, though with 2k it was often associated with me messing with the hardware and having incompatibility issues Over about 6 years of XP use on 2 different machines, I never had an issue.. I never ran anti-virus stuff.. I made hardware changes, I made registry tweaks according to what websites told me was ok to do, etc. I used to download a lot of music off kazaa or whatever else.. so it really confuses me when people have issues like this. It makes me think it's the user and not the OS--but I don't want to put that on you without knowing. I could just be lucky.
Is there something else to this thread, besides "Win7 Beta runs great on my machine" and "Apple, and their users suck"? You get angry when someone mentions anything apple and accuse them of hijacking the thread, but in every pro-apple thread here you come in and do the same thing from the other side. Your OP talks about running it on your netbook, now here you are bashing apple users as netbook users. You claim facts, and knowledge, and supremacy, but seems like it's always just cheerleading and hating with little substance and mondo implication and misrepresentation. Why so uptight? First you tout vista. Then you advise hjg to avoid vista (good advice, but you say it's amazing above) At the slightest mention of the a-word, the thread derails and you start calling names and spreading the anti-love. It would be nice if you would spend more time with relevant facts and features, and less time mixing the haterade. You're better than that, quit wasting you time. Quit worrying about apple and what their users think. If you don't wanna try it, or use their products, don't. If you have constructive opinions on win7, some people would like to hear them. Insulting people and making generalizations does nothing for your "cause". That said, maybe it was funny at first, but it's really too easy for you apploids to upset him. You know at the mere mention of the a-word, he will start name-calling and spreading propaganda, so why bother? He might have shared something interesting about the beta, eventually, before you all started baiting. Maybe. Pizza, you like windows, you don't like apple, we get it. Is there anything else about win7 that makes it interesting besides the incredibly factual "This time they got it right?" Lastly, I'll bet you siggy's that Win7 is not 'out' by the last day of August 2009. Say the word and we'll negotiate reasonable terms.
Yep. Seriously. Start up the comp.. and bam.. windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt... etc Stuff I do: Games Internets Emails Word/Excel Light Photoshoppin' And up until I got my Mac... financial stuff.. which I lost, thanks to a 2nd registry error that cropped up before I could backup my stuff.. woot XP Pro... the timing was just too awesome not to share, get into a PC/Mac argument on CF.net, and have my windows go t*** up on me again.. I'm done with windows, chucking this POS into the dumpster...
I'll bet you that it is out of Beta by the end of August 2009. It will easily be a Release Candidate by then. I think I read somewhere that it will RTM in 2010.
The only reason I told him to avoid vista is because he seemed displeased by it. Chances are, if he bought a laptop in 2004 it's Vista. The beta has a bunch of new visual features obviously stolen from Linux, but everyone does it so it's ok. Secondly, the GPU acceleration makes the OS run a lot smoother. The ability to multitask is a lot greater and I think for the most part it runs pretty fluidly. With newer hardware it is really a better OS. Yes, I still run Vista in the wings, but it's only for now. I think Vista is still a viable option, hell I just installed it on my gf's machine. I just think this OS is just done a little better. Visually it's just stunning. Power consumptionwise, it's a lot more efficient.
Not to be a dick, but if you've had multiple systems with registry errors....you're doing something wrong. I've worked in IT for 10+ years and the Windows registry hasn't been something that just randomly decides to die or croak for the slightest reasons since the Windows ME days. XP is an incredibly stable desktop OS, so it's got to be user error or something that you're installing for this to happen to you so often.
