Guys, I really need help on this. Recently my family is planning to move back to Hong Kong, and I would need to get a job over there. But I'm an US citizen, which means I probabaly would need sponsor to get myself a working permit in order to work in Hong Kong or China.

I'm a college graduate, and have about 8 years working experience in supply chain & logistics field. I'm also bilingual with English, Mandarin, and Cantonese. I'd appreciate if you could recommend me any website or let me know if there is any opening in any company that is in Hong Kong or Mainland China.

    Thank You Guys!

Over the past few years I've been looking to get work in the Chinese architecture market and even when it was booming it wasn't easy. Like most other places you need connections in the local market. If you have relatives and friends of family there in your field talking to them might be a good start. Another thing I was told to do is if you want a decent salary the best thing to do is to get hired by a foreign company doing work in China rather than a Chinese company.

It sounds like you have the right language skills so good luck.

It was funny because of two reasons.

    1. It's true
    2. your head is not a weapon

China has actually been trying to remove foreign labor out of the country for about a year now. They have been extraditing a lot of foreigners who didn't have proper visas and have instituted stricter guidelines for issuing work visas.

Part of the new requirements I've heard are having a degree and being a "specialist" in your field, whatever that means (a lot of law in China is fuzzy) and not being over 60 (their "mandatory" retirement age). Your best bet is to get a position with a major international corporation or utilize a strong connection - foreigners who go over there to teach English for a while or look at local work probably will get kicked out.

They are able to keep track of foreigners more tightly by enforcing the "report at local police station when you've reached your local destination." It's a bit amusing because they actually always had this immigration law, but never enforced it and even now the local enforcement often can't be bothered to deal with producing all the needed papers to countless visitors in big cities (another example of something in Chinese law that is fuzzy that can be used against you if they need something against you).

You only have to do that if you are not staying at a hotel.

You should always check in with the local embassy and they can basically take care of all that stuff. (or at least tell you how to)

You have to do that even if you are staying at a hotel.

There was a big crackdown before the olympics. It's eased off a little now but it's still not quite as lax as it was say three years ago.

I live in Shanghai. To get a decent salary, if possible get hired in the US by a company with an Office in Hong Kong or the Mainland and then transfer. It is not easy getting a good job here in Shanghai, just like everywhere else the Financial Crisis has hit hard. The mainland especially Shanghai, Guangzhou and Beijing have become pretty expensive places to live, rivaling Hong Kong, Tokyo, etc.

    Good luck

I heard they have a top secret, deathmatch underground Kumite in HK every few years. They may need some new fighters.

Hint: try to avoid Chong Li's side of the bracket.

You seem like a bright person. The Central Intelligence Agency is always looking for new recruits. You seem to have the langauge skills. Show your patriotism. I'm sure they'll get you that job in China that you're looking for. Check out their website for additional information.

Where are you born? HK or US? If you were born in HK, you got HK citizenship automatically so you do not need a working permit.

I was born in US, that's why I don't have HK citizenship. But I've seen alot of foreigners working in HK, I guess they all have sponsorship or something..
