Tomorrow, I go to see the Ear Doctor. I've mentioned it once or twice on the board, but when I was about 10, I had a tumor in my ear (called a cholesteatoma). It grew to be rather large before it was finally diagnosed, and it was removed in a 5 and a half hour surgery at Texas Children's. Now, I'm having ear troubles again. I've got all the same signs and symptoms (My ear drains fluid, literally down the side of my neck if I don't put a cotton ball in it...sorry if I gross anyone out...the fluid is a clear-yellow...I've got a dull to sharp constant ache behind and inside my ear...my ear just feels like there's something in there...when I had the surgery, I lost about half the hearing in my ear, and now I'm hearing worse...my glands are all swollen and hard...etc, etc.) I went to the doctor for an ear ache, and a "full" feeling about 3 weeks ago, and he said it was an infection. When I first had the problems, I had to go to the doctor three times in about 2 weeks, and it finally took my ghlands in my neck swelling so much that I couldn't move my neck.head for them to send me to a specialist... What sucks is I'm no longer in the realm of the Medical Center. Instead, I'm in a small town, with a decent doctor. Here's to hoping it is just an infection.
Please describe more details, sir, and make it as graphic as possible. 'Course, I kid, Mr. 'Snubbed. Good luck to you, sir. Here's hoping it's NOTHING SERIOUS.
I second all of the "Ews" comments, though I might add a couple more w's. Seriously, though. Hope it's nothing more than an infection.
best of luck to you... though I would add, since you already have a pre-existing history, etc. I think it would be wise in the future to skip a generalist doctor and go straight to the specialist, if you can.
I find it funny you're going to see the ear doctor and not hear him. Haha, classic. All joking aside, hope all is well. Best of luck.
I had cholesteatoma back when I was in middle school. I had surgery about three times to take it out, and they also made me a complete new ear drum. One of the surgeries lasted almost 8 hours. The ear drum looks fine but I can't hardly hear anything out of it, I probably have lost 70 to 80% of my hearing in that ear. Anyways, I haven't seen the ear doctor in a while. Not since High school which was about 5 years ago, I should probably get it checked soon since the doctor told me there's a chance it might come back again.
