    k. technically the op asked a question (in a lame manner), and i gave my points as answers. it's the word "rule" you used that got me confused.

I'm just saying that being slow with no lift doesn't mean you have to be weak also. Sabonis didn't get stripped as much as Yao and he was 30 when he came over. Sabonis was also big and slow. I think Yao need to be stronger, a lot stronger then he wouldn't let guards take the ball out his hands as much.

yao is unique in that he's such a tall and huge being and yet possesses high bball skills. yes, that half foot does make a big difference.

shaq is unique in his own way. you don't ever see another 340-pounder that quick and agile - on top of being so powerful.

some of it i think is genetic, unfortunately.

i mean imagine a 7-6 yao with shaq's agility, wilt's strength, sabonis' skills, walton's smart, russell's relentlessness, divac's shrewdness, and akeem's quickness... only in nba2k9.

IBM- As much as the create a center is intruiging, I think we should figure on how to make Yao better. He can start by getting stronger. If he was stronger, a lot of the things that happen now wouldn't happen. He can be a better student of the game. That means learning passing angles by watching tapes of the games and learning how to pass from the high post to cutter. Shooting. It still puzzles me how a guy that can shoot that good from the ft line, looks terrible when taking a j from the ft line. If he worked on making that one of his offensive staples, the team can always get him out the frind of the blks and get him a easy shot.

Well said. I think what ibm said earlier in the post is right about Yao. His body is not blessed by God like Shaq or Dream. Shaq and Dream are two kinds of players. Yao is another kind. I granted Yao as a Superstar center(defined as dominant at both ends) in 2006-2007 before he's injured.

Overall, due to Yao's physical limitation , I kinda doubt he is able to be at the same level as Shaq or Dream did(though I'd be thrilled if he could prove me wrong).

But I love the guy. One is he gives what he has, plays hard and has a loyal heart to his country. Second, after Dream, he's the best we have as a center. If you look around, you'd be lucky to have him as your teammate other than your opponent. Third, he takes the longest time to fall down and get up in the league today :D

(If you have 'big 3s' in the team, you'd expect them to play Hard day and night. That's the implied meaning to be 'Stars')

where's the doubt, still?? i mean that's the reason there're so many arguments regarding yao! a lot of fans still think it's possible for yao to reach shaq's or dream's leve, or close to it...if not for bad officiating, if not for injury...blah...blah...if everyone can come to conclusion that yao's what he is, like T_Man said, a very good center, not a all-time great, the board would be a much better place.

Yao has always been bigger than other kids when he was young, so he never really had to jump hard to take a rebound.

I think his main problem is reading the flight of the ball, most of time he has no idea where the ball will land, that's why he's always the slowest to react.

Leebigez hit it right on the head. Yao really needs to develop some upper body strength. He may be 7'6 and over 300 lbs but the majortiy of his weight is carried in his lower body. He is constanty getting the ball knocked out of his hands because alot of these guys are stronger than he is. It takes strength in your upper body to secure a rebound and hold onto it.

Once again, when teams play defense that means Yao is allowed to suck, right?
So in the playoffs he shouldn't even play or what?

    What a DUMB post

at this point, i believe Yao's problem is mainly mental. remember, its very teams strategy to play hard defense on Yao and Yao sometimes shows lack of aggressiveness. he gets bullied quite easily. on top of that, i think he tries to hard and puts too much pressure on himself, he's just making the game difficult for himself. damn how i wish Dream could be his personal coach for at least 1 season!! or maybe hopefully Deke will teach him a thing or two during practices (which might include his famous elbow jabs that causes one to lose their teeth)
