The Rockets situation now reminds me of the pre-Wesley trade team. If a healthy T-Mac needs a Wesley or Battier next to him. Maybe with a hobbled T-Mac the Rockets can only get burnt on the defensive end when he's paired with a Head, Barry, Wafer, or injured Battier/Artest?

GREAT POST! The biggest change between the two coaches is JVG made teams adjust to his defense where as Adelman shows the guys a couple of the other team's plays and says yea thats what they do and be ready.

alston quote - on team D

It's changed dramatically over the years I've been here," Rafer Alston said. "Now, during this stretch, this is by far the worst I've ever been as far as (team defense). We're usually one of the best since I arrived on this team four years ago. We've been No. 1 or No. 2 defensively."

"For whatever reason, we've taken steps back on the defensive end," McGrady said. "In the past (defense) has been our make up, a great defensive team. No matter how bad we were struggling on the offensive end, we always seemed to play defense. The last week or two, it got away from us."

With these players, I vote yes for JVG. It was funny how I was fantasizing about Adelman throwing in the towel and JVG taking over midseason. NOT GONNA HAPPEN, mind you.

I had my problems with JVG and his lack of imagination with the offense, and his hatred of rookies and Euros. But our defense rocked.

Yao loves the guy. Loved playing for him. And he had a dual reality with TSlack, yielding to Tmac wanting to have more of a share in the offense, but ruling him with more of an iron hand than does Adelman. Adelman is more of the player's coach---you know your job, go out there and do it. And it doesn't work with this soft group.

Now, if you traded McGrady to Chicago (with fill-ins) for, say, Hinrich and Sefalosha, I'd STILL take JVG, because at some point or another he has said he likes these players.

If you could put together a team of passing, share-the-ball, balls-enough-superstar-to-demand-the-rock-rather-than-whine-if-it-isn't-automatically-given-him, including another foreign player or two, I'd take Adelman.

Of course we'll probably all have to suffer this unholy witch's brew of a team and watch all the other teams advance in the playoffs for the---what? 12th year in a row?

That would really be bizarre to see him on the sidelines again for the Rox.

JVG is not walking through that door, fans. RudyT is not walking through that door, and Bill Fitch is not walking through that door. And if you expect them to walk through that door, they're going to be gray and old.

    aha a Pitino reference!

cept it doesn't work. They're head coaches, not NBA players or NFL quarterbacks. Hell, Adelman already is gray and old.

This is a pansy team. I said it before we canned JVG, but he was the backbone of this otherwise spineless team. The Lakers, Celtics, Spurs, etc. have players and/or coaches that are the backbones and hearts of those teams. Us? We got nothin'. I was hoping Artest would be that, but I haven't seen enough of that from him. Somebody better take over this team.

If you think JVG would be doing any better with the amount of injuries and different starting lineups that we have had this season, you are nuts.

I will say, though, that our defense is absolutely atrocious, and has been all season. I think we were good defensively last year b/c of JVG's coaching the previous seasons. Now it has worn off.

But injuries and bad shooting are killing us right now. Let's see what happens when (if) we get healthy

Let's give RA some more time (but the talent on his rosters have been better than the JVG rosters)

JVG has more passion and never gives up and of course, his defense is more than solid.

Since Dec. 1 this team is giving up 97.5 ppg

the defense reeks and Van Gundy would have either chewed them up or he would be in the hospital with chest pains

One thing is for sure, he would have lost all the rest of his hair, and maybe his eyebrows.

would i rather have JVG now? the answer is no .
Would the team have better defense? yes
I think you guys are developing a serious case of amnesia. Do you not remember that horrible predictable offense, it was atrocious.

And as far as people stating that JVG was the leader of the team name a championship team in which the coach was the leader and not the best player(s). The problem with this team is and always has been the star players.
