Recently there were Conley to Portland trade rumors... Bargaining leverage for the Grizzlies? http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_y...g=ys-milesgrizzlies121208&prov=yhoo&type=lgns
Classless my ass, a team would have pulled this stunt against the Rockets by now. Portland shouldn't get off the hook for screwing up and giving this kid a massive contract. Even with Miles' salary, the Blazers are still in the James-Bosh-Wade-Melo sweepstakes. In 2010, they can sign Carmelo AND Bosh. Oden/Pryzbilla Bosh/Aldridge/Diogu/(Frye - if they don't want to kep Oden switch Bosh to Center) Carmelo/Batum/Outlaw Roy/Batum/Webster Bayless/Fernandez/Blake The only salary on that list that is guaranteed in 2010 is Brandon Roy, and Pryzbilla has a team option. They obviously learned their lesson from Miles, and Randolph.
As someone said in an earlier thread about this situation, Miles' salary counting against Portland's salary cap could actually be a good thing for them. It expires in THE offseason, right? So if they have their hands tied up this offseason, they won't be able to offer anyone a huge contract this summer and so they'll have a lot of free money when it will be needed.
So if he is Activated . . . he is suspended for 10 games I wonder if those games count *grin* Rocket River
Darius Miles just played his first game for the Grizz. 2 minutes garbage time: 0 pts, 0 rebs, 0 ast, 0 stl, 0 blk, 0 to
They have 3 more days to cut him before having to guarantee his contract for the rest of the season. Wednesday is D-day for Miles and the Blazers.
Yep, Darius Miles with the 2 trillion This is with the Grizzlies making him the human victory cigar against the Mavs, not the other way around as you'd expect Portland not pleased
haha, i understand this is all fun and games for Memphis e.g. using him as a leverage against Portland but has anyone ever wondered what this kid is going through. Its just like when a guy starts showering his ex girlfriend with attention in order in order to make his current gf jealous. Once the current gf is willing to play ball, the ex is tossed out. I kinda see Miles being tossed out once Pritchard decides to make a call. Its only fair to assume Boston dropped him after being sweet talked by Portland, and now another team got him just to get some attention or some under the table deal with Portland. Im sure that even if Memphis drops him today, another team will pick him up, and then maybe the league will decide to step in then.
I don't think he's a kid anymore. He's lived a lot: made millions, been famous, become an alcoholic probably many times over and rehabbed a lot. He's just making money now the best he can, and that's a lot better than 99.999% of us.
How is he being used? Making Miles out to be a victim in this is silly. He gets paid a huge chunk of money he never earned and also gets some scrap time in Memphis for a few days, voluntarily I might add. He's been trying to latch on with a team all season and nobody forced him to sign there. We should all be "used" in this way. Give me a break!
Do you honestly believe Boston dropped him off because he was the least talented on the squad. Do you honestly believe that Memphis will keep him long enough to guarantee his contract. Yes, so what if he's getting paid, that doesn't give anyone the right to "use" him like that even if its legal. Have you heard of "job security". If you absolutely have no problem with your bosses at work hiring you just so that the next company can call them up, then you are a better man than I am. And while you are it, don't give me that crap about how he is already paid. If other people were playing a game of ping pong with your job security, you wouldn't like it either. Understandably like someone else said, he is not a child anymore, but still does that its right.
Boston had no use for him at all. I doubt very much Memphis will keep him past Thursday. Why would they? How does he fit in with their building for the future? Not at all. Comparing Miles situation to that of a working person makes no sense. He has $40 million to fall back on. He's already said he isn't doing this for the money. DUH, because nobody is going to pay him more than the minimum which is pennies compared to what he's earned. Job security is not an issue for someone with $40 million in the bank and no marketable skills to make a living. I think your sympathy is misplaced. Miles deserves none here. He is not a victim. That is crazy talk.
Boston actually needs a big body/veteran, they are looking at Joe Smith and our very own Juwan Howard. I understand where you are coming from in that he is a millionaire, and its still getting paid, but i'm only wondering how does he show up to work everyday without knowing if Portland called the night before
i just hope this messes up portlands cap space in the future. On a more serious note lets assume the grizzlies had signed josh smith in the offseason instead of having atl match it. Don't tell me a line-up of lowry/mayo/gay/smith/gasol and a top 10 pick next year to go with conley, hakim warrick, and darko wouldn't be a solid team in the west and on top of that very very entertaining to watch
