Besides prescription drugs what generics products do you buy? I use: dollar store batteries Costco toilet paper any brand of fake q-tips generic baking stuff like sugar, flour, etc However I am scared to use generic cleaning supplies because I have often been let down by generic ones. I can't even think to use store brand deodorant. I hate store brand hair gel because it turns into gel dandruff if anything comes in contact with you. Do you guys know of any Costco or other brands secret generics? Recently there was a report that Costco batteries last longer than Duracell and Energizer. My friend tells me Costco detergent is just re branded Tide.
My mother once used H-E-B brand detergent and everything in the laundry came out with discolored spots. Terrible day.
i got no problem with Rite Aid or CVS brand: contact lens solution, toothpaste, toothbrush, mouthwash, lotion, etc... ie, pharmacy goods- they have a brand name equivalent right next to it with the exact same ingredients....
Oh yeah I use generic OTC drugs, bandages, ointments, etc as well. My mother in law only buys name brand OTC drugs for some reason.
Everything Kirkland's from Costco including dress shirts, apple pies, chocolates, vitamins, laundry detergent...you name it
I use a bunch of Kirkland Signature (Costco brand) stuff. Contact solution (supposedly Bausch and Lomb Renu, but like 1/3 the price) Toilet paper Paper towels Cookware Batteries Laundry detergent Dishwasher detergent Bar soap Organic chips "Vitamin" water Naproxen Luggage Tuna Pizza Croissants Ice cream Organic salsa Shampoo Not always the cheapest, but good quality for the money.
Medicines in general (pills, ointments, etc.) Some health supplies (cotton swabs, balls, etc.) Milk Eggs Baking goods (sugar, flour, etc.) Oils Dry goods (rice, beans, etc.) Bread Jelly Trash bags There are probably others but I can't think of them right now.
probably only things where I can scrutinize ingredients and find them to be the same. Usually just OTC drugs, bandages, etc.
I don't know if this counts because you can't really brand something like fresh fish, but the salmon at Costco is excellent.
I'll generally go with the generic brand over the name brand as in most cases I don't notice much of a difference. The exceptions for me are toothpaste as I like the taste of Colgate over other toothpastes, Sudafed over the generic equivalent as the generics don't seem to work as well, Coke over generic colas and tea as I don't like the taste or selection of the generic tea bags.
I need to find more items that are close to brand name (save money). Most Kroger brand stuff is pretty comparable.
I remember back in the days when Channel 51 was a 24-7 news channel, they had a cooking segment. If you see cooking shows like on Food Channel, you'll notice that they create labels to cover the name brand. For example, a can of Green Giant Peas will be labeled Peas. But this was Channel 51...I don't think their budget allowed for name brands or labels. The chef was making peanut butter cookies using Kroger brand peanut butter. The host asked her why she was using Kroger brand instead of Peter Pan, Jif or Skippy. It was awkward. I think she said Kroger made quality peanut butter with a FU look on her face. I laughed...I think you just had to see it.
With OTC meds as long as the active ingredients are the same I buy the cheaper one. I don't like off brand foods though.
That's because it's low calorie and sugar-free. It's more like a diet soft drink than a regular soft drink. I hate Diet Coke/Pepsi but I can drink these.
It seems that the Pillsbury cinnamon rolls at Wal-Mart are there for days/weeks, while we continue to drain their generic-labeled ones. It seems Great Value stuff tastes better for some reason. We love the following GREAT VALUE (Wal-Mart) food at the SwoLy household: Bread Cinnamon Rolls French-Cut Green Beans Grape Jelly
Walgreens contact lens solution made my wife's eyes sting, but their benadryl tablets and anti-itch cream seems to work fine. We don't have to buy generic brands very often because the wife's awesome with coupons and we can get name brands often for cheaper than the store. I would probably also be a little nervous about using many store brand products like toothpaste and detergent. If it's a paper type item like toilet paper and paper towels that's no biggie. Store brand vitamins are usually very sup par. If your health conscious you want to be careful buying store brand foods. If you compare the ingredients in Kroger sour cream to Daisy, for example, you'll see a bunch of additional additives in the Kroger stuff and none in Daisy. And if it's not preservatives it'll be added fat or sodium to the store brands. Kroger brand tortilla chips have trans fat in them. Tostitos do not. Store brand milks are always fine. Kroger's cinnamon toast crunch is good, but the corn flakes and golden grahams are not. Kroger orange juice is terrible. My MIL buys alot of HEB brand food and they're usually terrible. That's all I can think of for now.
