Watching Yao struggle in the last stretch of games with FG % and lack of aggressiveness makes me think when was he at the top of his game, statistics show that he was absolutely Dominant 2006-2007 before the Injury, is it possible that he can return to his old style because he just doesn't seem the same.

the only difference is he took more shots back then by design. it's the same old yao and if you look at his other stats...it's almost identical...except shot attempts.

Well, McGrady and Yao are playing like role players sometimes. I just feel like Scola's role is bigger than T-Mac's or Yao's.

But back in 2006/07 he was not missing layups...

    I don't think it's completely Yao's fault.

Honestly though, I would think by now, every team in the NBA knows our offensive plan, which is to pass down low to Yao and if he gets doubled, he'll pass it back out, repeat. Even that one Raptor dude knew our offense as he swooped in from behind and just grabbed the ball from Yao.

I'll have to say though, Yao has gotten less creative on his shots. And not having a play maker or someone to penetrate to the basket and draw attention doesn't help either.

2006-2007 before the injury,,,he came up big ,,,averaging 25/10 if i remember correctly...

i have to admit that he is declining these days,,,,but only slightly....the guy would have been a monster without injuries..

I kinda agree. Right now it is easy, we throw the ball inside and that is all. Nobody can hit 3s, we don't have another scoring option since McGrady became a 10 ppg scorer.

But there is also no reason for Yao to miss easy layups and not to play defense...

The Yao-centered offense is predictable, but when it's done correctly, it is near unstoppable.

IMO the problem occurs when the opposing team sends a second defender towards Yao early and he and the Rockets don't take advantage of it. That's when Yao tends to struggle.

Of course, there have been some games when Yao just didn't have it, whether due to fatigue, back-to-back game, illness or whatever.

But before the recent slump, I actually thought Yao was having an excellent season. And if and when the team gets it together, I expect it to continue.

Oh come on, when your perimeter players are not hitting and your alleged best player quits, all the other team has to do is pack the paint.

Yao needs outside shots to fall to give him space.

When JVG use to park him on the low block and let him work. That was when there was no question that Yao was the best Center Weird because we had an even worst roster out there.

Mabye Yao is at the high post too much with Aldeman's offense. He's practically useless out there. I also blame his lack of physical play but it he has always shied alway from contact.

Yao has done enough this season for this team to live up to the hype. It's T-mac who has been the letdown not Yao. Yao has had his struggles but he's been our most consistent player this year which I know isn't saying much but he is far from the problem.

Agree, Yao is too far from the basket....... no one else knows how to set a pick on this team?

Is this another Yao is not Dream thread?

My problem with Yao is that he looks slower than ever now. His feet are stuck in cement, and he's been bringing the ball down low and getting stripped by smaller guards again.

    :(

And that damn aw shucks Clap of his is back....ahhhhhhhhhhhh!

Yao hasn't changed much, he is still getting around his 20 avg. The problem? No one else hits anything. They are all focusing on Yao. Our offense has zero ball movement, everyone just forces in shots. It really is a mess right now, thats what happens when you have injuries and no one in training camp.

Yao was at the top of his game when he played back in China against 4 footers. Thats all I can say.

yao was at his best to end the 05-06 season. he had no tracy, got the ball a ton, faced a ton of double/triple teams, and still put up 27 and 12 on a consistent basis. we didn't win a lot, but he dominated.

since then, he hasn't been the same. he'll have a great month, then a decent month or average month, then a great month...

like we've seen, since the great december, his last 4-5 games have only been decent.

i think the perfect big man to be in adelman's system in today's game is either KG, duncan, bosh, or amare. they all have outside games, good passing, but can post up if need to.
