To be honest, we need to change our team a bit and that first starts by replacing Alston somehow. I don't think Brooks will get it done. I believe Brooks gives us an offensive spark off the bench. I would really do the deal involving Head, Hayes, and Alston.
as much i love to have hinrich in my team he's staring to break down with injuries and we are trying to get t-mac out sooo
Kirk Hinrich turns 28 in a few hours. His contract does go down each year though Battier, Rafer & Hayes for Hinrich, Joakim Noah & Thabo Sefalosha
ah guys lovely thinking and all... however if Rafer and Head are the main chips in the trade then why on earth would the Bulls do it? I know that hes on the market but they're not going to trade him just for the sake of it. Hes on the market because they already have a couple of combo guards in Hughes and Gordon and a PG that will log plenty of minutes in Rose. Explain to me why they would want Head and Rafer? I would love him to come in but the only way we could do it so the Bulls would bite would be either using Battier or sending Landry or Scola with Rafer.
Dorsey replaces Hayes as the 3rd PF....we don't have a 3rd PG, but we have options all over the roster from Barry, to Tmac in a pinch....the rest is just swapping one starting PG for another. DD
Using the salary figures from ESPN trade machine which is meant to be accurate according to Eli Witus of www.countthebasket.com (he's currently employed by the Rockets as one of Morey's stat crunchers) Rockets are $989,242 under LT after the Steve Francis trade. I figure Deke's pro-rated vet min contract might count around $497,316. Head, Hayes, and Alston for Hinrich would add $1,369,622 to the Rockets team salary. So this would put the Rockets $877,696 over LT. Bulls might do it as a pure salary dump. Hughes & Gordon aren't really combo guards. Hughes is a swingman who the Cavs tried to play PG one season and Gordon is just an undersized SG. The Bulls still need a backup for Rose and that's why Lindsey Hunter was signed to a non-guaranteed contract when Hinrich went down.
Rafer Alston is arguably the worst starting Point Guard in the NBA. 29 other teams have a better starting PG than the Rockets, only thing he can do is bring the ball up the court and half the people on this board are satisfied that he can do that. Kirk Hinrich is a better shooter, a better defender, a better distributor and is more athletic.
i know hes good and all and he may or may not prove to be the change we need, but trading away the PG who knows your system the best in the middle of the season for another PG who (besides the obvious unknowns) has 4 YEARS left on his contract (10 mill, 9.5 mill, 9 mill and 8 mill)! If AB is truly our PG of the near future (meaning next yr or the yr after that), 9.5 mill or 9 mill for a backup PG in Captain Kirk is ludicrous and I sincerely believe the Rockets organization would NOT go for it!
It goes down, but not that much next year. Depends on how much an upgrade they view Hinrich. Artest's signability would be hampered some. If they get him and keep Artest, in 2009 might have to go all Phoenix Suns approach and sell draft picks to stay under luxury tax threshhold. Rockets would still be players in 2010 with only Yao, Artest, Landry & Hinrich the truly committed contracts that year. Forgetting what team would help the Bulls more, think what team Hinrich as a starting point guard would help the most. Hinrich isnt worth $10-$9 mil but Rockets are ranked WAY high on that list... Its all dream scenario anyways. Rockets are probably content Rafer is making his $5 mil money's worth.... I'm certain Brooks would stay the backup. Seems to be his most fitting role. We're pushing for Brooks cuz Rafer is so inconsistent. Brooks would have to get better at his point guard skills and overall playmaking. Otherwise Hinrich has more size, better defense, and just as good an outside shot.
Have to disagree. Firstly if they did want a salary dump they are only getting the 1.9 mil from Heads contract..if I want to get rid of 10 mil contract I would be wanting more than 1.9 coming off seasons end. While they may want a pure point backup I don't think Bulls fans would be happy with Alston....if I was the Bulls I am asking for Landry in the deal. While he has a TR where he has to agree I would actually think he would for the extra PT. This works and I think every team would probably think it could benefit them. see what you think: Rockets trade Alston, Head, Landry(assuming he ok's it) to Bulls Rockets receive Hinrich(Bulls), Williams(Nets) Bulls trade Hinrich to Rockets, Sefolosha to Nets. Bulls receive Alston, Head, Landry Nets trade Williams to Rockets Nets receive Sefolosha from Bulls So basically the Rockets upgrade their starting point guard and get a guy a lot more capably imo of sharing the court with Brooks than Alston. They downgrade on backup PF but not by as much if they just straight out lost Landry. Nets get a promising guard in return for a big man they're hardly using. There could be picks thrown about to. Feel free to bash.
Les said that about Rafer, he's happy with Rafer at <$5M year. I have to agree that Hinrich isn't worth 9-10M. I doubt you see a major move this season anyway, the Rox main problem has been Mcgrady not Rafer. The Rox brass want to see the big three healthy and if they can make it out of the second round of the playoffs. If there is another 1st round exit with the big three healthy, you can count on big changes in the lineup.
I would do this, but Sean Williams is available for cheap. He hasn't been traded and there is a reason for it. Guys if Swift is getting time over him his got problems and we know it.
