Apparently plugging it in/syncing doesn't matter either. That's going to piss some people off. Luckily the Zune I bought by brother was just the smaller 8 gb.
Update: http://blog.wired.com/gadgets/2008/12/zune-freeze-res.html It was the Z2k problem after all, a glitch related to the inability of the device clock to handle the extra day in a leap year that froze thousands of Zune media players Wednesday morning. "A bug in the internal clock driver related to the way the device handles a leap year affected Zune users," said the company in a statement. "That being the case, the issue should be resolved over the next 24 hours as the time change moves to January 1, 2009."

ITS STILL STUCK ON THIS <a href="http://s50.photobucket.com/albums/f330/eve2k5/?action=view¤t=RCA_0045-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f330/eve2k5/RCA_0045-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
Follow these steps: 1. Disconnect your Zune from USB and AC power sources. 2. Because the player is frozen, its battery will drain—this is good. Wait until the battery is empty and the screen goes black. If the battery was fully charged, this might take a couple of hours. 3. Wait until after noon GMT on January 1, 2009 (that's 7 a.m. Eastern or 4 a.m. Pacific time). 4. Connect your Zune to either a USB port on the back or your computer or to AC power using the Zune AC Adapter and let it charge. Once the battery has sufficient power, the player should start normally. No other action is required—you can go back to using your Zune!
Sorry guys, its game over for you and your Zunes. I will purchase your Zunes for 5 bucks apiece on Thursday morning (6-7AM) at the corner of Westheimer and Harwin. This is only done out of goodwill and I suggest you jump at this once in a lifetime opportunity.
You probably should've relayed this to the Zune message board and not here. But you have to admit this is a pretty lame problem, and people have a right to be aggravated. Imagine driving 7 hours home after the holidays, only to find your one source of entertainment will not work. BTW leroy420's auto play video is annoying.
LOL the zune I sold to my cousin did this. I had to laugh cause I saw the thread first...then I called him and he started b****ing right away
