I am not as interested as I used to be, for 2 reasons 1, I finally realized that NBA is but a show. Stern determines who wins it. 2, Rockets is not favored by Stern.
i'm definitely more detached this season for some reason. a year or two ago after a loss like last night, i would have been fuming and grumpy for the rest of the night. last night after the game ended, i just thought to myself "well, they got what they deserved."
I am shaking my head when I see the following weak points during games: (1) TMac and Rafer's senseless shot selection; (2) TMac's lack of passion and leadership; (3) RA's inaction/don't know response to opponent coach's tactics; (4) RA putting back starters despite the second unit's good performance; (5) RA's preference to RA rather than AB; (5) Yao's inconsistencies and occasional softness; (6) Unfair officiating to Rox players; (7) Rox's melt-down in the 4th quarter; (8) Deterioating defense; and (9) Lack of progress in offence. The only thing positive is players' fight-hard attitude (Yao, Scola, Brooks, Wafer, Landry and especially Ron Ron). If the above weak points are still persistent, perhaps "Get Red" means Rox gets a red figure in their Report Card at the end of the year.
1. reduce the reg season to 50 games 2. all nba teams qualify for the playoffs 3. reg season record determines home court 4. all playoff series (including finals) are two out of three Probably a disaster, but it would make for some interesting upsets and some wild match ups.
Fixed it for you. 2 or 3 games we've been to this year we've found out McGrady wasn't even playing, it's getting annoying. Why pay when you're not going to even get to watch the stars of the team play? Pugs
I was really excited after that road win at Dallas very early in the season, but it seems since then I've been meh on this team. Our record is decent but our play has been nothing like I envisioned it would be, and last night's loss was just bad... Inconsistency, injuries, bad refs, and some stupid coaching...it's been frustrating...
Glad I'm not alone! I went to the first season the Oilers ever played in Houston with my Dad and was hooked. Saw Blanda kick the first 50 yard field goal. I could carry on in that vein for a long time, but it's the wrong forum. Seriously, the big thing driving everyone nuts has to be the health of the Rocks. Today, we see Shane out for a week. Our biggest stars have to skip games to be able to continue, or play reduced minutes to keep on the court. Yes, Adelman sometimes makes moves mysterious to me, but I firmly believe he can take us to the WC championship game given a healthy team. All the other complaints by everyone here pale in comparison, in my opinion.
I used to not be able to go to sleep afte something like that I would be so mad. It really used to tick me off to stay up and watch a game on the West coast and have them pull off a loss at the end and it be about midnight Houston time.
3. Disappointment in recent years. We haven't exactly been overly successful the past few seasons, so I wonder if maybe I have subconsciously set low expectations and therefore am not as emotionally invested as usual. I kind of see this. I am still watching all games and get excited about brooks, landry, Yao. I like that we have Scola, Mac, and Artest on the team. When there is good ball movement--the rox are fun to watch. The thing that bothers me has nothing to do with the rox. It is the inconsistent officiating and the bias against Yao. The whole superstars get the calls and hacking Landry is OK is BS. How the refs can call some BS calls and take Yao out of the game for 3 Qs against the cavs pisses me off. It is apparent that the NBA is like Wrestling where it is a big show business, where D. Stern and his Mafia-refs can determine who wins and ultimately put the big markets in the playoffs like Boston and LA--this year I fear D. stern is going for a rematch of last year and will do whatever it takes to put both of those teams in the advantage from an officiating perspective.
I've been a lifelong Rockets fan - born and raised in Houston. I've supported the Rockets with my time and money for most of my adult life. I'm just tired of the lack of playoff success. The Rockets haven't gotten out of the first round in over ten years. All that disappointment coupled with all the idiotic personnel moves and all the botched drafts takes its toll on a fan. I'm more frustrated and disappointed that anything else.
Wow, I felt like I made this thread myself. The answer I end up with most is that I'm getting older and am more focused on other things, besides sports. But, yes, all of your points make a lot of sense and definitely don't help our fading interest level... Maybe we also see the end of the T-Mac/Yao era in sight with 2010 approaching?
I remember when everyone was certain it would be an all texas superbowl. '93? Didn't some store even start selling t-shirts for Oilers vs Cowboys regarding this thread. I agree. Our team has no chemistry... no fight... no passion... I'm sick of the ridiculous officiating (read my sig). Let's trade tmac for devin harris plus 10 million of filler. New Jersey will do it for the salary dump.
he actually takes 5 steps. the nba is pushing lebron on fans so hard, the refs have to win games for him.
Agree, all the talent to get to the WC game, but not the health to sustain any 7 game series. Small rant: I wish the staff would go back to telling us when someone is not going to play instead of the players.
1. Constant disappointment - Our teams always have the potential, but it's just one excuse after another. It doesn't help our players also don't reach their potential *cough*McGrady*cough* 2. Refs - They have always been a problem before but with the Donaghy incident, still not cracking down on flopping (which they said they would), blatant calls like traveling still going unnoticed, and superstar calls (and lack of for Yao), and it's just too much 3. Decline of Tracy McGrady - remember when he was considered one of the best SGs/SFs in the game? Sad to see many of the arguments concerning him nowadays consist of "when he's healthy" 4. Poor management/coaching - The terrible draft picks (until recently) and personnel moves, Adelman's "vaunted" offense that looks worse that JVG's, etc. I've always loved watching the Rockets even during blowouts (despite how everyone saying how boring they are), but with the same problems that continue to plague the team (like injuries) and how the refs seem to dictate the games nowadays, and well it's no surprised my interest in the Rockets (and the NBA in general) seems to be in the decline.
I remember I used to not understand how someone could say “well, I used to be a huge sports fan but now I just have other priorities.” Seriously, I couldn’t believe anyone could talk like that. But over the last 2 or 3 years (especially 2008), so much has changed in my life that I just don’t live and die on whether the Rockets win or lose anymore like I used to. The loss against Washington didn’t affect me one way or the other. I just turned off the TV and calmly went to bed. A few years ago, I probably would have called in sick the next day because of depression. This team, man, it’s hard to be such a hard-core fan like the old days of Hakeem, OT, Horry, Cassell, Elie, and Drexler. It’s just so hard to get behind them because they let us down every single year. Let’s face it: we haven’t been a factor in this league in over a DECADE. The 22-game winning streak was nice, but what did it lead to? Another 1st round exit. So basically, it really didn’t mean anything. All these so called Rocket heroes like Francis, Mobley, Sura, Mutumbo, Jon Barry, and now T-Mac and Yao….what have they done for us? None of them have ever so much as won ONE PLAYOFF SERIES. And before some of you kids start accusing me of being a fair weather fan, just know that I’ve been following this team religiously for over 30 years – longer than most here have even been alive. So far, this season is going down EXACTLY as I thought it would. A good team on paper, a different star injured every night, a few good wins, a few horrible losses….and we all know how it’s going to end. We are going to limp into the playoffs as the 4 or 5 seed (like every year) and then lose in the 1st round. AGAIN. Thank God for Artest, or this team would be completely unwatchable.
