before criticizing a post, please read all the others prior to it. i said they are on this team to score. head isnt on the team for his d, his passing ability, or his ball handling. he isnt playing well, yes, but he is out there to score, not defend....
Let's say this scenario happens, what are we to expect from Battier in the playoffs? He's only had one good playoff game his entire career. The rest of the time he was essentially a no show. From getting absolutely torched by Dirk when he was with Memphis and they played Dallas in the playoffs to disappearing last year after Game 1 against Utah. A_3PO, I understand where you're coming from, but at least Outlaw hasn't reached his peak yet as a player and has room to grow and improve. He's tall, lean, athletic, good leaping ability, and long arms. He's also a guy who's taken and made game winning shots. I agree that he's regressed this year, but Portland has done everything except come out publicly and say we don't want Outlaw and are just waiting for Webster to come back from injury. I'm sure knowing that you're not wanted has taken a toll on Outlaw. So maybe a change of scenery would be good for him and with this team being a good one defensively, Outlaw can be taught to be a good defender since he has all the tools to be one.
Uh I read that, he said name the scorers. The reason I singled out Head is because he can't be counted on consistently because he is not in the rotation consistently.
That sounds like the TJack mentality, "I'm out here to score, so I have the green light to jack up anything I want to help my scoring average; also, I don't need to play defense."
I watch a lot of portland games also, and he makes his share of mistakes, but the guy as gotten better every season, he's 22, long, atheletic, and can defend and finish. The important partis he's getting better unlike a 30 yr old Battier. He shoots better from every aspect of shooting also. Plus once again, if Artest leaves via free agency, he can sep in and start and in 10, he's can man one of those spots at the 3 while we get another guy.
I said 2nd and 3rd tier players and listed multiple players without pointing out who I think is 2nd vs 3rd. Regardless, they are not 1st tier wing players and that should be obvious. They aren't in the same category as Kobe, LeBron, Wade, Pierce and Johnson. Injured or not, if Battier is getting burned by 2nd and 3rd tier guards and forwards, I don't want to look the next time he has to guard Kobe or LeBron.
Even at his best he's just a slightly above average player. You don't give up a number 8 pick plus another player for a guy like him. It's not like he's helped the Rox reach the second round or anything.
They made the trade thinking he would help get the Rox out the 1st round. If they knew it wouldn't work they wouldn't have made the trade. Maybe if our 2 so called superstars were actually superstars we would be out the 1st round by now. At the time I didn't want to trade Rudy because his potential too but it is what it is.
it's because we expect so much more from tracy, ron, yao. battier's role on the team seems to get overlooked majority of the time. his shooting has been horrible, clearly. anyone can see that. but all the other things he does people tend to overlook.
We've been down this road before and like I've said before, it wasn't about Gay v. Battier. My whole point was if they want a established guy that can help now, Childress was there and caught in a loaded position battle. The #8 shouldve gotten the rox more than Battier. He's a decent guy, just not a starter on a contender. Sometimes the truth hurts and when you look at getting a guy like Posey for less than what Battier cost, it stings. Not only that, he's tougher and brings some a lot of the same intangibles shane does. When posey wouldn't let the Lakers see the ball go through the hoop, that says something. The fouls after the play, taking the big shots when Ray Allen was struggling for the entire playoffs. I've mentioned it in the trade thread about outlaw and frye for Battier. He can play his 20 mins and let the young guys do their thing. For this team with artest here, they need someone different. Younger, more atheletic and a guy that can do some things offensively without compromise.
I would much rather have Rudy Gay. I hated the trade when it happened. You're just making stuff up now. I'll be happy to address Battier's shortcomings. He has not been a solid one-on one defender (he has still played very good team defense though), he not a scorer so I never expect that out of him (he's shooting better then Ron though), and I agreed that if yao , TMac and Artest aren't playing well, then he isn't helping us. Artest has been far from good. He's shooting under 40% from the field (just 1% point ahead of Rafer). He was supposed to the big scorer we needed, and he has yet to do that. He also stalls the ball on offense , just like TMac does. If you spent more time reading my points, you would understand what I'm talking about. You whine about Rafer and Battier 24/7. That's just a fact. I'm not even bashing Ron. I'm just saying it's funny how guys are exempt from criticism on this board , but others aren't. Look at all the people calling for Steve Francis to play. People made all the excuses in the world for him. Our whole team (except Scola) was pathetic last night. Yet I only read about Yao, TMac, Batier and Rafer. Fan favorites like Brooks and Artest aren't mentioned at all.
probably should go in the trade thread, but: Houston Trades: Shane Chuck Luther Wafer Atlanta Trades: Marvin Williams Speedy Claxton If Shane was fully healthy, I could see Atlanta doing this. Battier's the veteran, defensive presence. Chuck can come in for spells. Luther or Wafer may let them play someone other than Acie Law. Plus they get rid of Speedy's contract for next year.
Don't worry, they'll be here. They're probably mobilizing as we speak. Another thing about outlaw is that he attacks the basket and can finish strong. Nothing against von wafer but when people are clamoring for him to be put in the game because he attacks the basket, you know the rockets have problems taking it to the hole. The rockets need more altheticism and size too - this can't be emphasized enough. Outlaw will greatly help with these two things. To king1, artest has actually played good team and individual D unlike battier. Artest has won games like against utah for the team this year too. There have been threads criticizing him too but I think he's done a good job. This is the first thread criticizing battier all season.
r****ds. Battier playing hurt. Slowed by injury. Still trying. Still making 3s, spacing the floor. Some people never satisfied. Player sit with injury, complain. Player play through injury, complain. Do not like watching basketball. Only do so to complain.
Didn't you get the memo? McGrady is the designated scapegoat for this season. Nobody cares about Battier, Artest or Yao sucking wind. Bash McGrady or GTFO. We might make a little room for Rafer hate every now and then, but McGrady is the designated scapegoat until further notice.
Memo changed. All gets blame now. Blame Adelman, McGrady, Yao, Artest Battier. Blame all now. Blame JVG next.
Do you think Parker or Alston space the floor better? What about Manu or Battier? When defensive players have to stay with their man or close out with caution, that's the mest spacing you can give a player. When you have the ability to get by people and attack the rim and finish, it opens the offense.
Forget that trade what we need is Chris Kaman in a rockets jersey. Rockets trade Shane Battier Luther Head Chuck Hayes Rockets Receive Kaman and 2nd round pick It works via trade machine yada yada....
